I just voted for the first time in my life

and I am 41. The ballot was really strange.

There were three or four places where there was only a Republican, so I left it blank. On the far right was a list of people in a gray box who had already been voted in, so I couldnt figure that whole thing out.

One candidate was an independent and a friend of ours, so we did vote for him.(It was my husband's first time as well). There was no dem for that slot.

Anyways, I put my little arrows together, and even though this is *bush country, I feel pretty good that I went.


Do yall know that I have my deceased grandmother's voter registration from I believe the sixties, and another from when she voted for the first time for FDR? It means even more to me now than ever.

18. That's great, but not everyone believes in voting "for" someone

whom they don't really support or about whom they know nothing. I won't argue which way is best but why not just congratulate a new voter instead of posting something that implies a putdown of her actions?

I've been voting since 1968 but I've missed some elections for illness or other good reasons, or because I felt that a referendum was meaningless and not worth my time. Voting could be made more convenient for the electorate so that everyone could vote in every election if they chose to do so.


A toast to all voters for making the effort whenever they could and believed thr trip to the polls was worth it.

Congratulations, texaslady! It's never too late to become part of the process, and yes, it does feel good, doesn't it?

I was always apathetic about politics in my youth, and when I was eligible to vote for the first time, I couldn't care less about exercising that right. Fortunately for me, my grandmother insisted that I go to the polls, and I did so to please her. I voted for Clinton.

To this day I fondly remember the very day she brought me to the polls and ignited the slow burn that would eventually become my active roll in politics.

I'm glad you found your way to the polls as well!

This is the first presidential election I've voted in. I have voted once before, but not for a president. I was old enough to vote in 2000, but I didn't vote. I was really busy with work and school at the time, plus I knew my state was going to go to Gore anyhow (which it did). I'm going to vote in every election from now on.

this year. It's a great option to offer, very helpful for people like me as I have chronic illnesses that have been known to keep me home, or see me dragging myself to the polls on Election Day. When I was healthy, it was sometimes difficult to get to the polls because of work and child care schedules, so I see this as helping many more people vote.

Congratulations on becoming part of the electorate! You should save a copy of your post with your registration and your grandmother's registration.

for the Senate. I was in the Navy at the time, serving in Memphis, Tennessee. I haven't missed an election since I was 19.

Congratulations to both you and your husband. I'm your age, and I haven't missed an election since I was 18, but your story moved me. What you need to do is to take the time to learn about the candidates. I fault my mother for usually voting a straight Republican ticket. The same can be said for us Dems. I usually vote Democratic, if there's one running in my red district in a blue state, but if there are only Republicans, Independents and small party candidates running in a race, I try to learn what I can and pick the best of the bunch. I, also, don't vote for Republicans running unopposed, unless it's for county coroner. I figure that anyone who wants that job should have it. Again, congratulations for a job well done.:pals:
