Well, I was just POLLED ... Bush* v. Kerry!.

Apparently, it was a CSPAN-sponsored poll (whatever that is). They went through the entire gamut .. "terrorism", "strong leader", "cares about me", "tells the truth", etc.

When asking about Bush*, with the typical excellent/good/fair/poor choices, I kept asking "Is there an 'abysmal' choice?"

When he asked whether I felt Bush* ever lied, I answered "I've never yet heard him tell the truth."

The pollster was obviously enjoying my responses -- stopping just short of overtly agreeing and cheering.

Do you have caller I.D.? If so, what did the number show up as? Mr. Nownow and I never answer our phone if we don't recognize the caller, but we've been wondering lately if we've missed out on a lot of opportunities to be polled because of this. The vast majority of the calls are from mortgage lenders and travel programs (because he signed us up for a couple of 'travelpoint' programs with a couple of hotel chains, now they all call us and promise us the moon).

3. Nope. No Caller-Id.

I'm a bit of a minimalist, despite my appreciation for such technologies and 35-year career in IT/MIS. I adamantly object to the charges levied for Caller-Id and also object to the fact that even when I block my number from being Id'd, the 800-numbers I call get to see my number.

I regard the way in which such "features" are being deployed as a SCAM.

6. We use it because we don't want to miss our mothers' calls.

We live long-distance from both of them, and generally we just don't answer the phone and let the answering machine get it -- we don't want to miss a call from either of them. Where we are now, we don't have call block -- used to have it, and it was really great, that if the caller refused to enter a legitimate number the phone didn't ring. If not for that, we wouldn't pay for the extra service either.

5. Same thing happened to me. The caller kept laughing

at my answers. I took the opportunity to tell her Shrub was "delerious, out of touch and ruined our country."

7. Y'know, I find myself slamming this regime every chance I get.

No matter what line I'm in, no matter where I might be waiting, if there's any chance at all (a sign, an article, a topic) I make some comment about the Busholini Regime ... using terms and language that seems it might be the most acceptable at the time. If I think making a joke will generate a response, that's what I do. If I think making a specific comment about Iraq, the economy, jobs, Social Security, education, or the chareacter if the Imbecile* might work best, I do so.

Everywhere. Gas station. Supermarket. Video store. Restaurant. Insurance agent. Family. VFW. DMV. Pharmacy. Playing frisbee golf. Passing someone on the sidewalk. Everywhere.

I regard it as a personal challenge to design my comment to be matter-of-fact, entertaining, matching the audience's mood ... whatever seems (instinctually) to have the most positive impact. So far, all I've gotten is agreement and positive (i.e. disgust with the Shrub) feedback.
