I Saw $3.09 A Gallon For Supreme This Weekend, Anybody Else Able To...
Top That???

Went for a cruise through Yosemite Valley, and than out the eastern side, dropped down into the MONO Lake Area, and the first service station I came upon was a Chevron. $2.89 for Reg... and you can figure out the rest.

:wtf:

3. High gasoline prices?.....Bring 'em on!!
I refuse to get upset over this. It should have been $4 a gallon for the past TWENTY YEARS; then maybe we would have figured out some ways to use less of it.

6. I was advocating a 50-cent a gallon tax on gasoline in 1977....
(wrote a paper on it)...which would have gone to fund transportation infrastructure, notably high-speed rail and multi-modal projects. John Anderson in 1980 mentioned the same thing, I believe, in his Presidential bid. If we were to put a whopping tax on gas and use the proceeds for good public transportation, long-term benefits would ensue, in my opinion.

9. Hey Im all about the mass transit and different options but
this is Bushcorp raping US. I wouldnt take much pleasure in that. A tax increase on fuels is the last thing they want, and would be an entirely different kettle.

20. Agreed
But it's an idea that never goes over well with the public when oil prices are rising. Back in the 70's when gas lines were everywhere, a heavy tax on top of "shortages" just wouldn't fly.

Carter tried to kickstart a move toward conservation and alternate energy and such. Few listened. I was in high school during Carter's administration and though I was aware of what was going on, I wish I'd paid more attention to the details. In hindsight, I am convinced that many of the energy woes faced at that time had to do with certain powerful people who were displeased that a sometime Georgia peanut farmer showed up out of the blue to get elected and attempt to help people at home while making peace in the Middle East.

Change never goes over well when it looks like it will interrupt someone else's cash flow.

Carter had his problems and made mistakes, but overall, I think he did a good job given the obstacles he faced. Everyone loves to talk about the October Surprise. To me, it looks like that was the last straw after a long slog through an OPEC constructed obstacle course he was never meant to successfully navigate. Maybe I'm wrong, but given certain cycles that we seem to go through, it seems plausible.

Plus ça change, and all that.

The frustrating thing now is that the high gas prices still aren't funding change, just lining the corporate pockets as usual.

8. That's right! And as long as it's that cheap, people will continue to find
a place in their budgets for humongous, dangerous conveyances that suck the very life out of our cities and our atmosphere.

18. I'm with you, but it will be a hard pill for many to swallow,
even the working poor with economy cars. But yeah, everyone else is paying higher gas prices, we should have been also to encourage thrift.

Anything that can potentially reduce the amount of gass guzzling Trucks on the road, is a good thing.

11. This is NOTHING
The other industrialized nations of the world pay closer to 5 bucks, give or take a dollar. The US represents something like 4 percent of Earth's population, yet it consumes something closer to 12 percent of all the oil in the world pumped each year. It was coming for a long time now. Nobody should be complaining, especially if they are the ones who bought things such as H2s that get 6 miles per gallon on the road.

14. And THAT... Is Where I Was Going With This !!! - Bush Is In Trouble !!!
This is a part of rural America, where people are forced to drive great distances for work and play. This is where many folks probably are gonna vote for Bush, but are getting slammed in the ole wallet!

I didn't see any Kerry signs in this area, but I only counted 2 Bush signs! This may just push many who would normally vote for Bush, to vote for a change in direction instead.

BTW - Crude is on the rise right now.... again. $53.60 per barrel, up another 29 cents as of this posting.

17. As I've said before,Bush always planned to bring down prices
in the weeks just before the election. And he's done it. If gas went up to $1.85 for regular when it was $35/bbl, why is it only $2 for regular at $53/bbl? They're trying to mitigate the damage, but it is so out of control that it's not working. If it had stayed $35/bbl we'd be seeing $1.29 at the pump right now. After the election, win or lose, (and it is going to be lose, for them)it's going up to $2.30/gal regular.

On another thread, someone suggest a 'December surprise' after * loses -- how about $3.50/gal regular at the pump, for Kerry to deal with? With Bandar Bush's help, is that unlikely?

21. EXACTLY
We're already being primed for horrendous winter heating bills, pump prices will skyrocket, and Bush will stumble off into the sunset. The war has set the stage -- the Saudis will do their part, being friends of the Bush's and all, and Kerry will get the media-driven blame.

Gird your loins for Carter redux, everyone.
