Now before you flame me, let me say that I like Clark just fine, the thing is, looking at the prospective nominess in the months since Kerry became the de facto nominee, the constrasts in their behavior is striking. Dean has kept plugging non-stop for his new grassroots movement, Graham has published a VERY important book called "Intelligence Matters" and has been keeping the heat on this administration.

Clark has worked with Kerry, spoken with the media and been a great proponent of the democratic side, but watching him, I get this feeling that he's just TOO NICE do deal with the GOP slime machine. I know the CW is that he would be the dream candidate, but EVERYONE has a skeleton in the closet somewhere, and Rove would invent one if there were none. Kerry is used to these sleazebags. He was staring down O'Neill the scumbag 30 years ago. He dealt with this scummy cabal back during the Iran-contra investigation, and he's a tough, experienced debater.

I would've hated to have seen Clark destroyed by the slime machine. I think he's a genuinely good guy - too good, perhaps.

1. I hope that Clark will run for
the Senate in Arkansas or get appointed by President Kerry to a post in his administration.

2. NO! Cuz Wes does NOT need to run for the Senate!

Arkansas already HAS two Democratic Senators. However, gop Governor Huckabee (the Huckster) is term limited out in 06. I think THAT might be the best route for Wes.

11. I don't care for Beebe ...
Not much at all. He doesn't have any chirisma, as a state Senator, he was a dick, and as AG, he isn't shining even as brightly as Mark Pryor. I think he could be beaten in the primaries.

4. He can't be SecDef....
...some rule about active military having to wait a certain amount of time before they can do that post.

I won't speak for Arkansas, but how about taking Condi's job? I think we should put a true diplomat back in the SecState position, but NSA would probably be good no?

5. interesting observation
He does seem almost too amiable for the nasty work it'll take to bring down these bastards.

Excellent cabinet material, though.

7. Disagree,
Niceness is not to be mistaken for weakness. The man is steely-eyed and tough as nails. And he is highly pissed at Bushco. He is compassionate and passionate, which may seem like he's too nice. A genuinely nice guy but no pushover. In fact during the primaries he would publicly spank Bush with such aggressiveness that it would make my jaw drop. Now everyone is doing it, but back then no ex-military would even dare. I think his only weakness was nervousness in the debates and a less than stellar campaign staff that had him doing things that were inappropriate and changing his style. Seeing him speak in person gave me the chills, he exuded such strength and conviction. Wonder how he would have performed against Cheney. I mean all they could have thrown at him was the lack of experience meme. Otherwise his background is pristine. If not quite ready for Presidential politics, he would have made a great VP.

8. I think Clark is tough enough.
He's endured both physical and political fire and come out on top except for the backstabbing in the Clinton administration. I believe he learned from that. I wouldn't worry about fabricated attacks since it is hard to sustain an attack without a basis of truth. I think the peope would see his honesty and sincerity and he would have had broader appeal. It really doesn't matter because that was all filtered out in the primary and we're where we are.

9. I don't doubt his toughness.

It's his willingness to spin and get dirty, etc. He just seems like he'd want to stay totally on the up-and-up, but I think you need to get a little dirty when you're wrestling with pigs...
