"Cheney's Lies are too obvious." It's too good to be true....What's Up?
Reading articles from NYT's, Boston Globe, Slate, etc. this morning, plus scanning the cables it seems everyone did a "fact check" and has proven Cheney lied last night over and over. Saying he had never met Edwards before was so blatent a lie that even I didn't need to do a Google.

So...What's Up...He did it on purpose...he's too crafty to be caught out this way.

I think that Cheney is so used to lying without consequence that he just couldn't tell the truth.

8. I agree - he is used to his own spin not coming back to bite him
that he was seriously thinking no one would question him. He is, after all, the president, don't ya know?

2. One theory
is that he was just providing "red meat" to his base who will believe anything he says no matter what.

I haven't seen any RW reaction to the prayer breakfast picture yet. How are they spinning that?

10. Who has questioned them in the past? Not the media
Why should he think that now would be any different? The freepers may believe that the media has a liberal bias but cheney knows the truth. The media is GOP bought and paid for.

7. he destroys all he touches EVENTUALLY
I loved reading "Dick, the Man who is President", by John Nichols (the unauthorized biography of Cheney). I read it last week & was so comforted, because EVERYTHING Cheney touches eventually crumbles -- primarily because he is, and always has been, a power-grabber who does not take in more information -- he just stands in resolute ignorance and gets swept away by the flood of truth and growth. Let the flood wash him away November 2, the self-serving sludge--

peace

Edited on Wed Oct-06-04 09:06 AM by bushisanidiot
in Iraq. I wouldn't be surprised if he and AWOL are trying to throw the election, hoping that President Kerry will not be able to fix what they broke, then AWOL will run again in 2008 hoping for a landslide based on Kerry's inability to fix AWOL's problems.

it would definitely be a pretty stupid strategy, but Joker and the Penguin aren't exactly Rhodes Scholars..

13. A sociopath's lies aren't "really" lies... he actually believes them.
Some staffer came up with this lame retort during dress rehearsal. And no one went to factcheck.com :) to check it.Cheney knew it was a lie, but couldn't resist using it...it was just too powerful of a comeback, since it played to his strengths (the bold exercise of power) and Edward's "weakness" (inexperience and a blase attitude toward senate voting).

A politician like Cheney, who has pulled off lies with impunity for four years, just assumed there would be no consequences.

Given the papers in your post, he may yet be proven right. The story needs to run in middle America or Cheney wins.

It also needs to make the opening monologues of Leno, Letterman et al.

14. I still think that die-hard Rs will be able to convince themselves
that the liberal media is distorting the truth about Uncle Dick. While his lies are obvious to observant voters, there are still far too many people with their heads in the sand.

17. I may have missed this part last night
because I was laughing so hard on the Blog coverage, but did Edwards finally explain why he voted against the $87B? It's such a simple explanation. I believe Kerry voted against it because Bush wanted it to be a giveaway or grant or something instead of a loan. Correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks.

18. Yes, he did, but it had to be rushed a bit.
Basically, he said the same bill was a huge giveaway to Haliburton, and then used that as a springboard to attack all of Haliburton's no-bids.

It was a good segway, but he might have done well to linger on the $87 billion more to make sure people understood that he otherwise WANTED to provide for the troops.

19. We need to hammer in public the "never met" lie
That lie is a big winner. It is simple, easy to disprove and has pictures. There is no way for the righties to spin their way out of that lie. We can crush Cheney's credibility on that issue and sink him like the repukes did to Gore in 2000.

of this mess and are trying to lose. I smell a rat here and feel
we're all being set up, but if it gets these 2 people off my TV and out of my life, then set me up. As Henry Lee said in the O.J. Simpson trial "somethin wrong".

35. Agree
I'm also getting the feeling this administration wants out... they know they are up to their forehead in s--- that they can't dig themselves out. Maybe they know if they remain in office there will be indictments and more problems they want to face.
Just a thought though. Could be Farwell coming out and saying the Shrub is owned by them....something is not right. No one wants to be owned.

24. I just found the answer to my question
on Olbermann's blog..

"In my capacity as vice president, I am the president of Senate, the presiding officer. I'm up in the Senate most Tuesdays when they're in session. The first time I ever met you was when you walked on the stage tonight."

So he was trying to score that Edwards was never in the Senate..How stupid~

30. Yes, he was trying to insinuate Edwards had a poor
attendance record. But instead of being more subtle, he exaggerated it so much it could be proved wrong immediately, forcefully, with a picture. Hyperbole is a big mistake when it can be debunked that easily. He rolled the dice and, unfortunately, got snake-eyes.

Hubris, I tells ya' -- I guess he didn't think it would be that easy to find a photo of the two of them standing elbow to elbow.

31. Hubris plus old fashioned stupidity
Cheney wanted his Lloyd Bentson moment so he exaggerated it so that even the rubes could understand it. He and his staff didn't bother to check whether this lie could be disproved.

It was a huge mistake on his part and if the Democrats don't hammer this home, they deserve to lose.

33. I think it already had shown up on CNN last night
before I went to bed, so apparently the 'so-called liberal media' thought it was worth making a point, even if it was nearly midnight. The image did show up on television, and hopefully will again.

You're right -- it makes Cheney look like either a liar or an unhealthy man with poor memory retention. Either thing is a plus for K-E.

27. He couldn't very well tell the truth
Think about it. He had to say something. Had he said anything other than what he's said all along, he opened himself up to the charge of flip flopping (which, incidentally, he did anyway, when he said in one sentence that he thought the states should decide on marriage but that Massachusetts was wrong to legalize gay marriage - anyone else catch that?)

His best tactic was to continue to tell lies in the hope that he could once again pull it off. How the hell can they start telling the truth now?

29. I don't agree. Cheney has a long history of making shit up
when he wants to make a point. The one that sticks out in my mind is his appearance on Meet the Press, when he said, flatly:

"We believe Saddam Hussein has reconstituted his nuclear weapons program."

He might have believed it, but there was no evidence for it.
