I am an environmental studies major.

This girl told me she couldn't vote for Kerry BECAUSE (according to her) "Killed innocent little pheasants".

I didn't get it at first but she explained: being October of last year Kerry went hunting in Iowa. She was angry that Kerry might do it again. Then I remebered the story about Kerry going hunting with the locals.

How do you argue with someone as far out as that?

2. explain to the precious lil thing that if a certain amount of hunting

isn't done the pheasants over populate and degrade their environment to the point that baby pheasants starve to death (poor little things)

predators are a natural part of the world

then pat her on the head and take her to the polls (as long as Nader isn't on the ballot in your state)

As mentioned above hunting helps keep pheasant populations under control.

But some folks don't get it.

Most environmentalists are mainstream and recognize hunting as important.

The ducks and pheasants in my area go on "red alert" when Cheney is in town. (SW PA).

Dick Cheney is under fire for shooting birds. The Vice President has come under attack from an animal rights group for participating in a “canned hunt” in which he reportedly killed pheasants that were released for the purpose of being shot by hunters.

THE INCREASINGLY low-profile V.P. was taken to Pittsburgh by Air Force Two earlier this week where his “security detail loaded him and his favorite shotgun into a Humvee,” and went to Rolling Rock Club in Ligonier Township, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. There, he and nine other hunting buddies shot at 500 ringneck pheasants, killing 417 of them. The V.P. was credited with offing 70 of the birds, as well as an unknown number of mallard ducks.

These weren't wild birds either, they were raised for the hung and were released in front of the shooters.
