I just watched * speak in Florida
About the hurricaines. I didn't really pay attention to his words. There's no point in it, I've found. It's the annoying, whiny sound of his voice and that perpetually smug facial expression that I cannot stand. This morning, his trademark smirk was still very evident despite his efforts to disguise it and appear 'concerned' for hurricaine victims. The overall effect was that of him looking like he was straining to take a dump.

I cannot do it. I can't look at and listen to him for 4 more years. Why do people like him, again?

1. Because he is a guy you can 'have a beer' with.
I can't begin to understand the appeal of 'he who shall not be named.'
People are hard to figure out.

P.S. From here on out, I will not even dignify references to 'it' with witty nicknames.

15. isn't the Prez supposed to be the national "designated driver"?
I mean, all of us regular folks can go and get sloshed, but I thought the point of having a head of government (and in the US President's case, head of state) is that it's someone who is alert and trustworthy. Not a guy who's got his head stuck in the beer keg!

2. I can't figure out why people like him, either.
Out of the many things that drive me crazy about this administration, the one that really gets to me is when you see * hunched over a podium. Stand up straight, you moran. You are talking to the American people. And then when he starts banging on the podium with his hand! :grr: How many times will we have to endure that tonight?

I finally decided not to go to a debate party because I cannot watch him without yelling at the TV and I didn't want to frighten anyone.

10. That slumping over the podium bothers me too
I find it disrespectful of the office (which is something I am constantly accused of - I always politely explain that I have great respect for the office but no respect at all for the man in it).

He's representing our country (god help us!) and I think he should behave with a lot more dignity than he does. That frigging grin-and-chuckle of his is like a bad vaudeville routine.

Even my apolitical husband (until this year) noticed that. He was disgusted too.

3. When Bush*first
started showing up in National news during the 2000 primairies, we immediately heard the "likeable", "kind of guy you'd want to have a beer with" meme all over the tv screen. Neither my wife nor I could understand where that was coming from. To us, and even back before we knew what a disaster he would be for our country, he was a repulsive, slimy character. I don't know where the "likeable" crap comes from.......

5. There seems to be 2 reasons why some people like him.
First is the "godly man" thing.

Second is his macho swagger, and arrogant attitude.

The evangelicals fall into the first catagory, and no matter what they begin with, abortion, gay marriage, etc. it always ends up with "He's a godly man".

MAcho men and scared women seem to fall into the second catagory. The men because it reflects their personality. The damn it, I know what I'm doing, and I don't need anyone else, I'll do it myself crowd, and the women who are afraid something's gonna get 'em, and a man who looks like a strong leader will protect them.

I doubt any of these people will ever change their minds.

11. hmm
People like the swagger. The irony is that its phony swagger drummed up by his fantasy view of the world.

Maybe a lot of people live in their own fantasy world so it resonates with them?

16. Maher said in 2000: "Women love a guy who'd kill for them"
It has nothing to do with likeability (although the media beat that drum often enough - and dems reinforced it). For his supporters with a brain - is purely about the power.

18. The press tagged him likeable because
he combined a chumminess which only slightly veiled a threat in his treatment of them. Be good to me, and you'll be one of the in-crowd, but cross me and you'll be fucked 3 ways from Sunday. That's their stake in it--a Kool-Kidz desire to be in with the elite combined with cowardice.
