Also Jim Quinn (real conspiracy whackjob - heard he openly carries a .45). Mike Pintek and Jerry Bowyer (who tries to play the intelligent Rush).

They do a drive time show on Boston sports radio, WEEI. When they talk sports, it's really quite good. But when they get into politics, I switch them off. This morning, they spent nearly an hour about John Kerry's tan: an issue of critical national importance.

Dennis is a psuedo-libertarian who occasionally dares to say a bad thing about Bush. Unfortunately, his hatred for Democrats overrides any clear-thinking evenhandedness he might be capable of.

Callahan is a Kool-Aid drinker and an angry, vindictive fuck. He regularly shouts down people who disagree with him, and every debate inevitably turns into a venomous tirade of ad hominem attacks against "traitorous liberals." He is incapable of debating the issues, and his ignorance is only matched by his rage.

Both of them nearly got fired last year for equating black children with gorillas on-the-air.

The funny thing is this: Boston is a huge sports town, and ratings for all of the programs on WEEI are through the roof, regardless of politics.

I bet if they compared the morning drive time ratings during times when Dennis and Callahan are on vacation vs. when they're in the studio, the numbers would be exactly the same.

The station would save a lot of money if they dumped these two assholes and put just about anybody else in their timeslot. WEEI has an impressive stable of knowledgable sportstalk hosts- and none of them come with the extremist baggage that these guys do.
