America Is Not What It Seems....
from the outside you would have thought this is the best place on earth to live, the picture is painted so nicely that you just felt money grows on trees around you, whereas you pick them as you go along and you can pick them up from the ground you walk on,in
retrospect it is quite the opposite, people are more wicked than your average citizen somewhere else, more bigoted, more wasteful, more arrogant, more chip on their shoulder, more opinionated with no regards of course, more vengeful, more hatered, more cry for blood (an eye for an eye). In all this is the country where people wants more death penalty, care less about the poor man and struggling family.

Your Judicial system is the worst I have ever seen, 'corrupt as hell' and you still think you have right, what right, the color (its actually colour)of money right, wishful thinking, your government takes you as a fool and are showing it by using the media, and you still think you live in a great country, please think again, you are controlled by the police, whatever they say in court goes, want to argue that point...well explain this to me, why is it when a police car is in front everyone drives slowly, afraid to pass, why? because there is no Justice that's why.

Your Judiciary answers to no one, how is that possible, I wonder. So this is not a great country,it use to be but not any more, the criminals are in control and you the people have no say in the matter.

DON'T WAIT TILL IT FALLS ON YOUR DOOR STEP BEFORE YOU DO SOMETHING, IT MIGHT BE TOO LATE THEN, DO SOMETHING NOW, GO OUT AND REGISTER TO VOTE, VOTE ! YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU

Please no unnecessary post, let it be a constructive debate thank you

6. Day Job? when has stating the facts becomes
giving up the day job. You sounded hurt, your patriotic pride, this is exactly my point on my post, arrogance, instead of standing on the other side you stay one sided refusing to acknowledge there is a problem in this country.

China. North Korea. Anywhere in S. America or the 3rd world, for that matter.
Now tell me if this is not arrogance, instead of addressing the issues you point fingers, have you ever been to China, S.Korea and S.America, I doubt that pretty much, your judgment is based on the same propaganda that is being channeled through the media into the public right now, maybe if you try and visit these countries then maybe then you will see the true image. Being a Peace Officer does not exclude you, you can be part of the problem,

How breathtakingly, staggeringly idiotic. 'Controlled by the police'? How long have you been in this country, a few days?

now tell me if that's not a bigoted statement, address the point not the person making the point.

8. You are not stating facts, but observations you have made.
Some of them are true and can be supported by facts. Others are complete hyperbole.

Maybe it's because English is not your first language, but your tone is aggressive and you will probably get a lot of aggressive responses in return. You can't come on here, attack ALL Americans (especially on a Democratic website, where most of us are fighting against the kinds of things you mention) and expect that people are going to discuss this calmly and rationally.

If you are looking for a fight, you might be happier over at Free Republic.

20. I'm not looking for a fight,
but an honest debate, yes you're right, its an observation, it is for people to point me to the right direction, not to attack me.

I was looking for someone to educate me, but so far I have not seen much different from my observation. All I'm getting is attack.

Lets deal with the real issues. I'm not here to do battle, we should be fighting the same course anyway.

47. Do you still believe private business should be able to discriminate?
As in, white-owned diners should be able to refuse service to black people?

I know you've said it a couple of times. But it always surprises me. Especially coming from a cop.

63. Yes, I do, and this hasn't changed.
People should also be free to take their business elsewhere.

I know I'd never patronize an establishment that discriminated based on race, and I know you wouldn't, so can you imagine how quickly someplace like that would go under? And, in the meantime, you get to know who is patronizing it, and can make your own judgements about them, accordingly.

Seems to me to work out all for the best.

But to legally coerce people into private associations that they have no desire to enter into? Nope, can't agree.

You haven't made a valid point, you've engaged in mindless attacks on LEOs based on fantasy speculation. Don't expect that to go unnoticed or unaddressed around here. You ask idiotic rhetorical questions that lead the reader to presuppose guilt on the part of LEOs. Sorry if that makes you uncomfortable, but I don't let that go without comment.

That would involve you being transparent about your record. And if you caused someone to lose his livelihood over a false arrest, that arrest being a decision you made via officer's discretion, you are not responsible for it but the state is, in your opinion? That is passing the buck.

You do a disservice to yourself to stereotype Americans the way you do. I believe there are a hell of a lot of good people still in this country- good people who don't have much power to change the system to make it better. I believe those good people are the great silent majority who will, one day, finally step up and demand accountability from our leaders and our institutions.

Your inflammatory message does more to discourage reasonable discourse on your "points." Instead, it makes me wonder what your ulterior motive is for posting. Flamebait?

13. It isn't and the evidence is anecdotal
As most of the rot, is left undocumented by a government that wishes
it were otherwise.

Statistics that support you: the prison population, the overwhelming
presence of non-white races in a theoretically demographically fair
system. The income distribution of the country, and the correlation
of that with infractions-with-police.

Whilst i can't say that americans are any "more" stupid, racist and
egocentric than any other nationals, the government certainly is...
and all of that, i attribute to a rotted news media system that sees
news as "entertainment" rather than substance.

A man running a california prison rehab program once told me after i
suggested that injustice was being done: "Ha ha.. you think the
prison system is about justice? It is about punative punishment,
and nobody gives a f**k about justice."

The police state has gone too far... even character assassin, is a
paid police officer, a tax-paid welfare queen who makes his career
"serving" the public, but as well, serving himself.

I hope you get some distance from these emotive thoughts and can
better elucidate your views as time progresses.

Welcome to DU, even though you've many posts, i've not welcomed you.

peace,
-s

...from the BBC

Home Secretary David Blunkett has said he will not tolerate anti-social drunks turning city centres into "no-go areas".

Alcohol is the root cause of 70% of weekend night admissions to casualty, according to Home Office statistics.

And alcohol misuse is thought to cost Britain around £20 billion a year through crime, injuries and lost productivity at work.

and...

In a recent joint survey carried out by Alcohol Concern, Drugscope and the publication Personnel Today, 60 per cent of employers stated that their organisation had experienced problems as a result of employees' misuse of alcohol. Employers identified the following as arising from alcohol misuse in the last year:

* Absenteeism – identified by 75 per cent of employers
* Poor performance – identified by 61 per cent of employers
* Disciplinary procedures – identified by 42 per cent of employers
* Permanent loss of staff – identified by 30 per cent of employers
* Damage to business – identified by 8 per cent of employers
* Accidents at work – identified by 6 per cent of employers

Alcohol continues to be a significant factor in crime. In 40 per cent of violent crimes, victims say that the perpetrators were under the influence of alcohol.

Violent incidents in and around pubs and clubs accounted for nearly 1/5 of all violent crime. Figures from the British Crime Survey show that regular visitors to pubs and clubs were more than twice as likely to become victims of violent attacks than those who were not.

Something seems more questionable here. There are many, many people who come to the US, & speak English as a 2nd language .... and while they may speak in "broken English" they do not write in this manner. Rather, there seems to be an effort to create that impression.

...You are correct, America is not always as it is portrayed....unfortunately many, not all, buy into the "biggest", the "best", and the "most" in regards to the US. You will never open their eyes.

I actually know people who really believe all of those things and cannot acknowledge that our neighbors to the north actually have a better standard of living. These are also the same people who feel that they've been to Europe because they've visited the Epcot Center.

BTW, I do agree...50 years ago I think this was a great country....now we have a lot of work to make it great again.

I DO believe part of the reason that so many Foreigners are quick to point out the unfairness and injustice in America is (partially) because a large share of Americans are so Phony. They'll shed a tear during the playing of "I'm proud to be an American" then turn around and have the attitude of "I got mine...Fuck You, Charlie" and on top of it all, won't even get up off of their Fat Asses and go vote.....

Maybe if they quit bragging so much about their country and actually DID something about the unfairness, then other folks would be a little kinder to them....

for a full year under a exchange program. She always wanted to see America and told me some of the stories that happened in her country.

She had a nice stay here and is now part of our family. She saw some good things about America and she saw some things that are pretty much the same as in her country. I learned alot from her and I hope she learned a few things from us.

I guess it's all relative. She has come back to visit once after she went back to the university. She believes our justice system is better then her's because only the rich have access to it. I'm not talking America middle class territory but really rich.

Like all countries we have good and bad but don't slander a full country.

We can't even get into a speech by him unless we 'REGISTER' and volunteer ourselves to future 'duty'.
