American troops expect support from their president, not platitudes and denial (or delusion, either would work here).
The American people expect their president to face reality, not run from it.
The American people are not stupid. They know you can't solve a problem if you can't face it. (Same theme as above only brings in the sub-text of public shame = for not facing problems) edited to note that Bush has 'face' tell issues. And cannot help reacting to the use of the word in public shame contexts, hidden or open.
Bushie is exceptionally vulnerable, both politically, and personally on public shame levels. He will find it impossible to respond effectively to wording such as above. Instead his response will be to use mis-direction and denigration (likely quasi-joke) in response.
So, then the response is,
The American people DESERVE a straight answer to our problems not jokes, or is that ALL you can offer?
