BBV: Cynthia McKinney quoted by AJC
"At the demonstration here, Harris asked a Georgian, former Rep. Cynthia McKinney, to follow the instructions and demonstrate the ease of "hacking" into the program, which was made by Diebold Elections Systems, Inc., the nation's biggest provider of electronic voting equipment.

McKinney moved the mouse and punched a few buttons as the computer file vanished. "This is incredible," said the Democrat, who is running Nov. 2 to regain her old seat.

She said she came to the event "not only as a concerned voter but as a candidate" who could be affected by malfunctioning or fraudulent voting machinery. In her own recent primary, she said that she had a corps of poll watchers who noted problems, such as a loss of power, overheated machines, and machines that had not been properly set at zero at the start of the day.

"Those problems pale in comparison to what is being demonstrated here today," McKinney said."

I haven't seen this posted yet, and it's a huge step forward for AJC to print this, and hopefully it will wake up enough Georgians to start to scream bloody murder in time to change things. Cathy Cox had better realize she works for the people, and not the other way around.

1. Cathy Cox thinks she's got a future shot at Gov.
Cathy Cox does not realize that her future in politics is finished. She has been warned about this for years. She has dismissed all criticism.

2. Agreed
Georgia received an F- for it's electronic voting, but she's going on like everything's coming up roses. She needs to quit making fancy commercials (not so thinly veiled ways to get her mug in front of voters two years early) and do some actual work.

I used to like her before she just rolled over and let Diebold have this state. And as much as I dislike media whore Mark Taylor, he'll get my support over her because of this.

3. E-voting attracts global monitors
By CARLOS CAMPOS
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Published on: 09/23/04

The United States regularly sends experts to monitor elections in fledgling democracies and nations troubled by civil war and corruption. But after the controversial election of 2000, experts from other nations are eyeing the American system — including Georgia's.

A team of international monitors has spent this week in Georgia, drawn by the state's use of electronic voting machines, which has attracted vehement opposition from activists who fear they can be manipulated to steal elections. Monitors from Argentina, Australia, Ireland and Zambia are leaving Georgia today for California to compare notes with teams that visited Arizona, Florida, Missouri and Ohio. The group, hosted by San Francisco-based human rights organization Global Exchange, plans to issue a report next month.

At a public hearing Monday at Georgia's Capitol, the four monitors got an earful from about 20 touch-screen voting machine opponents. Besides being susceptible to tampering, the machines offer no tangible evidence that a vote has been properly recorded, the critics said.

7. Not hardly
the AJC is NOT a friend of voting machine activists. This is the first article which comes close to objectivity about the issue. They are clearly on the side of Cathy Cox.

My guess is the reporter was afraid to call the international observers "conspiracy theorists" like he does the activists.
