EDWARDS: BEST FOR CONTROL OF CONGRESS
http://www.newsobserver.com/edwards/

U.S. Sen. John Edwards argued Tuesday that Democrats are most likely to make gains in the U.S.House and Senate in 2004 if he is the party's presidential nominee.

During an appearance at the University of South Carolina Law Center, Edwards said congressional candidates in all parts of the country would want him to campaign for them during the general election -- which may not be the case with some of Democratic rivals, Edwards suggested. He did not mention any other candidates by name.

"Democrats need to not only take back the White House but also the House and Senate," Edwards told a crowd of about 200 people, many of whom were law students..........

I've been arguing this for a while now.

2. Okay, this is toooo cute!!!
Not your article, it was nice and all but get this:

"Emma Claire also seemed to have picked up on some of the lingo of politics, offering one night to "endorse" her father if he would take her swimming at the hotel."

Is that not hysterical? Can you not just see that little blonde head figuring out how to get one over on Daddy? Funny, funny.

Here's a link to the article about him touring with the kids, they really are the kind of decent, honest people that would attract ALOT of rural and southern voters. That could well make him the best candidate for bringing in the House and Senate. I really like Edwards and I really wish I liked his policies as well as I like HIM!!!

3. which policies don't you like
Edited on Thu Aug-28-03 03:55 AM by Bombtrack
he has the most progressive platform of any serious candidate when it comes to both corporate regulation and civil liberties and civil rights. And his proposals would get through congress, for privacy and americorps, for epa regulations, i could go on

the middle and working class is for the tax burden that Bush has put on them to go back up to the rich and off them, have real progress in helping them pay for college

just because he can appear like a classic moderate, it's really not a reality that he is any less liberal than Kerry, Dean or Gephardt

but he is alot more electable

4. great pic!!
I like Edwards and pictures like the one in your post really show him at his best IMO. I caught him the other day too on ABC, I thought he did well.

I'm not supporting him in the primary but would vote for him if he got the nom.

8. Specifically
He won't put a moratorium on medicial marijuana arrests which will not go over in the west. Not to mention Oregon's assisted suicide.

I prefer Kerry's health care plan and I still don't see how Edwards is going to pass a law requiring parents to insure their kids.

I like the idea that kids who get the grades will automatically get a year of school. Get them in the door. Although Kerry offers 4 years of school for 2 years of service, which I also like.

He seems to have too much confidence in the government's ability to regulate itself in regards to his solutions to the Patriot Act and creating a new terrorist intelligence agency.

His foreign policy concerns me from a lack of a clear stand on Israel/Palestine and being too quick to buy into the need for unilateral military action.

On the other hand, I'm increasingly concerned Kerry would have a tough time because he is a true liberal. But I would still like to see a bit more of Kerry's attention to detail in policy within the Edward's campaign.

11. his kids
yeah, it's the cutest thing. when he is giving speeches or other appearances sometimes his kids are there and they just run up to him or run around with edwards signs. but his wife is usually right by side so both can handle the kids and the campaigning.

5. Horsepuckey.
The South is voting fewer and fewer Democrats into the House and
Senate, and the ones they do vote in are sham Democrats. Edwards
won't reverse that trend.

In the North, Edwards will be perceived as yet another Southerner.
I know that, speaking just for me, I'm pretty much done with
voting for Southerners as "Democrats".

Feel free to flame me; I'm sure you will.

6. No flames, just a suggestion that you re-think your opinion.
Virginia and NC both have Democratic governors - the right candidate - Edwards - could carry those states, as well as West Virginia, Arkansas, Tennessee. And pull in some Congressional seats.

We need a candidate who can appeal to ALL of the country.

John Reid Edwards (and that beautiful family!)

7. Southerners Do Better In The North Than Northerners Do In The South.....
That's a f-a-c-t

Clinton and Gore were way more popular in the North than the South...The Electoral College proves it...

Noting but the facts.....
