ACTION ALERT! Save Dan Rather from the freepers
http://sf.indymedia.org/news/2004/09/1702996.php

A phone call is much more effective than email.

This is important!

8. I know
But a lot of affiliates are griping big time, saying they never got a reaction like this. The freepers are going all out on this one.

7. I think they are trying to save the least compromised corporate outlet...
...from being bullied into becoming yet another Fox News clone.

I think they are right doing so. CBS News is the last non-right-wing news source left for many in our parents' and grandparents' generation. They don't watch cable news, and they don't even acknowledge the internet's existence. It helps to have an outlet that will at least cover SOME of the things we're talking about, so that our ffolks can say "Oh yes, I heard about that on the TeeVee."

9. Reality kicks in at the Anarkids' Revolutionary Squat
Edited on Thu Sep-23-04 07:43 PM by BareKnuckledLiberal
At long last, the scales have fallen from the eyes of the trendy-boo leftist hipsters. Slay the fatted calf! And that's no mere sarcasm on my part -- I've been trying to talk sense into various "revolutionary" friends of mine for years. And they've been trying to do the same with me.

Well, push has come to shove, the rubber has met the road, and Fascism has become more than a slogan. I, for one, am glad to have them working in solidarity. I've learned a lot myself since 2000, and I'll gladly share with my other newly-educated comrades in arms.

Freedom is often a difficult road to walk. And we've only just started.

10. Always out of Virginia, these shadowy groups...
Bought and paid for by the GOP, through quiet channels.

I will do my part later this evening. We have a marathon thread here on GD about the origins of the Rather attack machine, entitled: "rathergate.com". If you need some background, check out that thread.. The "rathergate.com" website came about on 9/9... and immediately called for Rather's head. This is not a grassroots thing.. anytime you see a Virginia address, you KNOW that it is financed by GOP corporate types and operatives.

Kick for Dan Rather.. the last great tv journalist.

150. EXPOSE RATHERGATE.COM!! Here's how:

<>

They have this tool on their site that allows you to "complain" to CBS affiliates -- but only after they've screened the messages.

And, being the dumbasses they are, they're not even hiding the mailing list (a few addresses bounce):

Also, don't forget to let them know that you appreciate the quality and objectivity of CBS News and that Rather did the right thing by exposing the background of the controversy himself and apologizing even if he was the one who might have been deceived in the first place -- and if anyone deserves firing it's Bill O'Reilly, not Rather (or something to that effect).

22. To counteract the organized lunatic fringe demanding Dan's firing
read how they flooded CBS affiliates with e mail demanding CBS be dropped from their lineup- (about the only station with Dan Rather
that bothers to do any investigative reporting - 60 minutes -

if they win all the stations will be under the thumb of the fascists -
CBS, the last bastion of integrity.

21. I posted about a Freeper...
who called in today wanting to talk to the advertising department of the company I work for about Dan Rather.

Well...I work for a major home-improvement/hardware supply company, and they're up to their elbows right now trying to help in hurricane recovery. I seriously doubt that's their major concern.

Freedom of Information Act Requests

The Freedom of Information Act, commonly known as the FOIA, was enacted by Congress in 1966 to give the American public greater access to the Federal Government's records. You do not have to file a FOIA request to obtain information which is routinely available for public inspection, including records from docketed cases, broadcast applications and related files, petitions for rulemakings, various legal and technical publications, legislative history compilations, etc. Much of this information is already available on the FCC website, but if you would still like to file a FOIA request, follow the instructions on our FOIA web page.
