Republicans are fair weather fans.
And this does not bode well for Junior. They will desert a sticky situation faster than you can say "Watergate". Just as they deserted his Daddy when the economy hit the skids. Then they used "read my lips" as their excuse to drop him.

Repubs like winners. And they will desert Dubya in droves if and when they sense he is on the ropes or is vulnerable. And the White House knows their own Party. They will do anything to convince their own people they are doing the right thing and Bush* would never lie intentionally. If he was given false information, that was not his fault.

The first hint of desertion will manifest on talk radio. That is where the base of the VRWC operates. Keep your eyes and ears on talk radio if you want to know whather or not Bush is in trouble.

1. If they love winners, why did they hate Clinton?
Over 70% approval rating for most of his administration.

Repubs have too much invested in Bush to turn him into a hot potato.

2. Mmmmm I'd have to say I'd disagree...
...maybe a lot of the more educated ones that you or I come in contact with would, and there are some on Free Republic that are starting to break orbit, but there seems to be a hard corps of people in denial, people blaming it on the "liberal media", etc.

I don't know if this represents the GOP base, but there's also some principles of self-governance in effect on that thread as well (someone accuses someone else of "helping the liberals" on there). Course it happens here too sometimes :).

Why on earth would "god" allow his to be deceived??? If his mission is so all-important, one would think that god would be guiding him

4. There is about 20% hardcore Republicans who won't jump ship no matter what
Edited on Fri Jul-11-03 10:34 AM by Bandit
The same is true for Democrats. It is the other 60% that have a little portion of their brain still intact. Those 60% are still split pretty much down the middle but there is a subtle change happening and it doesn't bode well for Bush*. You are correct that most Republicans want to be thought of as winners and as soon as they feel like their side is losing they will jump ship. They have no real base beliefs except they have to feel superior. Their side is right, their country is right, their car is bigger, etc. etc. They are the ones starting to reconsider the horse they rode in on.
