Not on the wire

But Gallup is hiding "premium" content on its site.

Anyone got and info - or is Fox blowing smoke?

1. Haven't seen it
but it depends on when it was taken, and the question asked.

Why would Fox have a Gallup poll?

3. If it's Gallup, the last one they did was 6-27 - 6-29
Edited on Wed Aug-27-03 10:57 PM by alcuno
That had * at 65%. I went back and looked at it again. It's a favorabilty poll of all adults not likely voters.

5. I don't agree. This poll does not poll likely voters
and it's really just a "do you like the guy" poll. Not a good indication of voting trends.

6. probably some slanted bullshit question
like "not counting the economy, do you think GeeDub is a pretty good guy?" or "considering the fact that GeeDub keeps this nation safe is he doing pretty good?" Polls are really a dishonest sheep herding trick, Polls said Dean was crazy for taking on the Iraq war and a "popular president".........look where that got him :eyes:.......Deans popularity is a real poll, especially among independent voters.

8. You're right - it's not a likely voter poll.
"These results are based on telephone interviews with a randomly selected national sample of 1,009 adults, 18 years and older, conducted Aug. 25-26, 2003."

7. Gallup Poll 8/28/03:
Edited on Wed Aug-27-03 11:17 PM by Melinda
POLL ANALYSES
August 28, 2003

Americans Maintain Support for U.S. Presence in Iraq
Bush approval stable at 59%

PRINCETON, NJ -- Americans are increasingly likely to say things are not going well for the United States in Iraq, but the latest CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll finds no decline in the past month in public support for the U.S. presence there or in public approval of the way President Bush is handling the situation. Bush's overall job approval rating -- at 59% -- is also little changed across the four Gallup Polls conducted since mid-July

Lots more:

See below -- it's the fault of the Clinton penis again, but things seem to be coming to a head:

17. Not "likely voters" - Approval is Q1 - then Iraq questions
Reverse the order and Bush may be under 50%.

18. During The Run Up To The 00 Election
Gallup was the most off....

I once read a review of their polling techniques by the pollster for the Washinton Post. It's prolly still archived at the Washington Post site.

As an empericist these things interest me big time.

The Washington Post basically said that Gallup doesn't properly control for the fact that the Dems s-t-i-l-l have a slight edge over Reps in identification and registration.

11. Yes, Gallup usually biases to the Right

Correction relative to reality tends to hover around subtracting 5% conservative bias, though I've suspected for most of 2003 that that number has been drifting upwards to about 7%. (There is so much fluctuation and softness in soft Bush support that I can't nail down the change in bias to my own satisfaction.)

We have a person who posts here who used to used to work for Gallup and confirms a conservative bias to its present polling results. Gallup has lost in reputation what Zogby has gained. The Quinnipiac polling operation seems to be something of a partner to Gallup, with (in my experience) a quite consistent 5% conservative bias with occasional exceptions (0-2% bias).

You can have a look over at Pollkatz and see whether you agree- and what the other polling operations have in the way of numbers.

In short, corrected for by their standard amount of bias, Gallup reports much the same 52%-54% numbers as other pollsters.

16. Isn't Zogby considered a Republican pollster?
I've never understood the bias of pollsters, but I'm reasonably certain that Zogby is one that leans to the right.

Zogby's poll has WhistleAss at 52%. Historically speaking, I seem to recall Zogby as being the only poll that predicted Gore would win in the 2000 election, only a handful of days before.

Here's a link to the latest Zogby poll, conducted August 16-19, 2003:

The trend is clear no matter what one poll says.

This one shows why there will be another war or terrorist attack in late spring '04.

22. This is GOOD news!
Look, we all know that Faux News has to shill for the right....but now, when they shill, and push the numbers up, they're still in the 50's.

Think about it...even in their lies, they STILL can't hit the 60s.

This boy's goin' DOWN if they can't even LIE him into the 60s.
