Well, another exciting 60 MINUTES tonight!...report for west coast
One the evening news, Rather showed a snip of an interview with the secretary of Killian. She said the INFORMATION in the documents is true, but she didn't type the memos. Evening news covered the Repug effort for investigation into CBS and Rather, and an interview with the president of CBS, who said they will continue to try to verify the authenticity of the documents.

1. Whoo-hoo
I'm on the West Coast, and I was hoping for a preview.

Go, Rather. I hope the Bushistas have picked on the wrong guy, finally.

"...these are unpleasant truths. But they are truths. There was and is no joy in reporting them. But part of what reporters are supposed to do is ask questions, dig for facts and, when truths are found, share them with the public and, when called upon to do so, speak truth to power. This we did."

I am now officially in love with Dan Rather.

If you haven't already, please post this in a thread of it's own so lots of people see it. We know it won't be published in mainstream media this side of the Atlantic.

3. I imagine Killian
stayed late from time to time and typed his own CYA memos (which his secretary confirms he kept in a locked desk drawer) himself, using the hunt and peck method.

That's the type of memo he would have typed himself, the unofficial ones that he wanted to keep in case the shit hit the fan over preferential treatment of rich wastrels like Bush.

6. Now that that's resolved, can we get back to the issue?
Mr. Bush, why did you disobey a direct order in May 1972 to report for a physical?

9. Also, Mr. Bush
Why did you change your driver's license # ?
Why did you wear a ribbon on your uniform that you didn't earn?
Why did you have to perform community service?
Why did you do AWOL for six months?
Why did you check the box that said "No overseas service"?
Why do you still say that you served "honorably"?
Why can't you speak normaly?
Why do you keep falling down?

8. You know what I think is funny?
that Killian's wife maintains he would never have written those memos. Like she knew every memo her husband wrote. That's insane. I couldn't tell you one memo my husband has written...except, maybe to me. Seriously, what wife/husband/significant other can baldly state that "those were not written" by their spouse? And people believe they're fake because the widow never knew about them.
Bizarro.

13. It's Card. . .

posted this in another thread. . .

I was watching John Stewart last night and they had a guy on talking about the forged papers. Stewart asked the guy if Rove knew about the letter before hand. The guy on the show had a ear piece in, but he was saying Rove ran a few campaigns over the years. There was one in 75 or 76 where the same thing happened had again in the 80's. He then stops mid-sentence and changes his mind. I am kicking myself for not TIVO'ing it.

This is my first post to DU, and I'm not as up on Carl Rove as others are, but think about it. Rove gives the memo to the dead guy's wife, the wife gives the memo to Rather and then says she didn't. Who is going to go after a widow? Who is going to accuse a widow of a US veteran??? Rather stands up behind the forgery to get the truth out, he knows what happened and he won't back off his story. I know you guy's are all for conspiracy theories, but I am positive this is from the Bush camp, it has his stench all over it.

Is there any was to look up Rove's political campaigning history and see what other "bombshells" were discovered by the "other side?"

When you really sit down and think about it, it makes perfect sense and it is a brilliant move by Rove. Rove knows his shit and he's playing all the games. It's up to us to expose him for what he truly is, he's good but not that good.

18. Yeah like the tape of Bush's debate that was mailed to Gore by a secretary
from Bush's consultant that was CONVENIENTLY caught on tape from a building security camera when she mailed it outside their office. Remember that? WAAAAY too convenient.

Good post! And you are correct to suspect kkkarl rove of just about anything. He's the incarnation of Macchiavelli.
