Hate in America : Can you explain to my wife
My wife is from the Philippines.

Do Americans Hate Filipinos

She was reading on the internet today and came across a thread from several months ago when the Philippine government pulled their troops out of Iraq. In the thread they posted several replies from an AOL message board filled with hate and racial slurs.

I tried to explain to her all those hate filled messages was probably the work of the FreeRepublic, but she doesn't really understand.

1. I post on those AOL HELL boards
they are not representative of this country, but are good places to fimd free republic cooks who have left the reservation... and yes they are scary

As an immigrant who came from Mexico, trust me these folks at times scare me... but they should not be taken too seriously.. they are essenctially cowards.

2. To your wife:

Most people in this country are not as evil as those who posted the awful things you read. I have travelled greatly throughout the world which obviously makes me more appreciative of the world's diversity, but even before I did that, there is no way i would judge someone based on their ethnicity. Many many people would agree with me. The lowest dregs of our society come from the far right who practically want an Aryan nation - even an Aryan world where all dissent is crushed. The pull-out of troops by your country was viwed as dissent by these extremists, and for that, they wanted to punish all Filipinos with these awful slurs. I am not a religious person in any way shape or form, but sometimes I wish there was a hell, so we could send scum like that there for the rest of eternity.

4. No, we do not hate the Filipinos.
There are a few mentally derranged people in this country who hate EVERYBODY, including Filipinos, but those people are an extremely small, extremely loud minority.
Thinking Americans wish nothing but the best for the Philippines and their people.

5. I've never seen it
The last time I witnessed any anti-East Asian prejudice was about 15 years ago. I was in a bar in New Jersey, drinking some beer with a Filipino, and a moran down the bar started making anti-Japanese comments. We didn't bother responding to the moran, and he left in a couple of minutes.

The haters are disgruntled and don't have a lot of friends, and don't have a lot going for them. They got kicked off the company bowling team for being impossible to have fun with. They can't go to state parks and chill because trees make them think of homosexual eco-radicals. Therefore, they have plenty of time to bombard message boards, both mainstream ones (like AOL) and Freepfests.

I wish everybody in the USA was cool. Unfortunately, this isn't the case. I understand why the comments on the message board would make your wife wonder about all of us, but I hope she will come to see that a lot of us are pretty cool; our country contains some unhappy people, like most countries do.

6. what you need to explain to your wife-
here in america, the level of hate and mistrust of others is directly proportional to the amount of melanin in the skin of the persons being hated.

8. Most of us aren't like that....
but it's the crazies that get the attention. If you pay attention to the real people in a cross-section of America, you will see less of the racial bullshit, and a lot more tolerance.

Peace.

10. Remind your lovely wife
That mainly the hatred comes from hate-filled-anti-American conservatives. Many conservatives forget that our country was built on immigration. They are like the KKK. They are UGLY AMERICANS! Tell her that we LOVE her and are glad that she is here, she is making us what we ARE...... fucking FREEPERS!

12. I love the Phillipine people!
I worked with lots of them in a hospital here in Denver. They were very smart and hardworking, and fun to be around, and I have to say some of the most physically beautiful people I have ever seen. And I am intrigued by the language--I wish I could learn it, is quite exotic sounding--Tagalog.

I apologize for any bad feelings those vulgar animals on the chat boards stirred up. Those people are really not typical of most Americans, they are just mean and have big mouths, and the internet gives them an opportunity to hurt lots of other people, which they love to do.

Most Americans are aware of how much the Phillipines have helped the US over the years, and respect them.

13. I don't think any of us can really imagine just how hard they work
My wife's older sisters all chipped in and helped to pay for her to finish her college education after her mother died. Her father at the time was not around.

No such thing as student loans or government grants there. she was able to finish her degree in architecture and now works here and sends money home to pay for her nieces and nephue's college education.

That and she does every thing to make a wonderful home.

15. Racism transcends America... though we have quite a history of it.
Its racism, and racism exists everywhere that races do.

That probably isnt terribly comforting... im not too good at being comforting.
