My name is David Ippolito (That Guitar Man from Central Park)
Listen... I'm just a singer/songwriter... and a registered Independent. But the world is getting to be a very small place. And now, we're getting direct words and pictures everyday from Iraq and Afghanistan on the "Guitar Man" website.
Here is an excerpt from a letter written months and months ago from our friend, Gordon, who is sending us stuff from Afghanistan and Iraq. (Gordon sent us another update yesterday, which I will probably post tomorrow morning. I just felt this was an important letter for today.)

When I heard Ambassador Joe Wilson speak this summer, before he had his all-too-short moment in the spotlight, he predicted that within 6 months the casualty rate would start ratcheting up in the tens at a time, instead of the drip drip one two every few days. It's a shame that for one he seems to be on the money, and two that sharp people like him, who could be of great service to the country in times such as these, are seen as enemies by the administration. Haven't they got enough enemies? Can't they broaden their circle a bit and keep things interesting? Unfortunately that sort of incest seems to be catching, we liberals might broaden our own circles a bit -- I think we're getting caught up, even gleefully, in an "I told you so" free-for-all. No question we did tell them so -- and here I won't go so far as to say that what's past is past, because the ramifications are so very present -- but the division in our country right now verges on cancerous. If we keep batting back and forth between righteous Republicans and pseudo-Democrats every four or eight years, with those terms inevitably punctuated by the scandals of a bi-partite regime, we'll never get down to the real business of overhauling an out-of-touch democracy...

Joe Wilson's predictions have come true.
In the first 16 days of this month, roughly the first two weeks of September... 46 American men and women have been killed in Iraq. Hundreds and hundreds of Iraqi citizens. For me, this is not about partisan politics. I'm a registered Independent. This is about Truth and reason. I think the REAL heroes this election will be the registered Republicans who vote this administration out of office.
