Wholesale baker files for bankruptcy protection

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Interstate Bakeries (IBC), the nation's largest wholesaler baker whose products include Twinkies and Wonder Bread, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization early Wednesday.

The electronic filing made shortly after midnight with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Kansas City, listed assets of $1.626 billion and liabilities of $1.321 billion.

In a press release Wednesday, the company said that, subject to court approval, it has received a commitment for $200 million in financing from JPMorgan Chase (JPM) to pay operating expenses, supplier and employee obligations.

4. It's because they're too damned expensive!
They cost $4.00 a box and for that kind of money you can get fresh donuts or snacks. I don't buy them for that very reason. Little Debbies are much less expensive (granted, not quite as good). Other companies are getting into it too.

5. People don't want to eat plastic, fat inducing, cancer causing food any
more.

The 'cream' in twinkies was designed to have a shelf life of 13 years.

THIRTEEN YEARS.

I don't eat something that doesn't go bad when left out for more than a few hours.
