WH Press Secretary Scott McClellan as Baghdad Bob
Edited on Mon Sep-20-04 10:39 PM by Thurston Howell IV
In this week's Time magazine, Joe Klein writes of a recent mini-press conference aboard Air Force One. Klein asked McClellan about the intelligence community's dire assessment, sent to the President in a July National Intelligence Estimate, that we seem to be losing the war in Iraq. McClellan responded that "The role of the CIA is to look at different scenarios." Klein then pointed out that all the scenarios were awful.

McClellan then began to recite various talking points, that the "pessimists and naysayers" had been wrong about Iraq up to this point, etc... Two thoughts occurred to Klein as McClellan plowed on. First, that Bush's skepticism about this intelligence estimate was in stark contrast to his wanton embrace of the October, 2002 intelligence estimate which said that Saddam probably possessed weapons of mass destruction.

His "second thought was pretty wicked: Scott McClellan is beginning to sound like Baghdad Bob, the infamous spokesman for Saddam who announced hallucinatory Iraqi victories as the American troops closed in on Baghdad."

7. That's cool McClellan is such a ridiculous joke that he isn't usually
worth even commenting on. What a smarmy sell out of a human being.
