Unemployment and a record deficit and the House decides they need a raise?
http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/09/15/congress.payraise.ap/index.html

4,000 dollars more per year as a "cost of living raise".
How come they get 4,000 dollars, but the rest of us battling a difference in cost of living get a 50 cent minimum wage raise?

corrected. When they vote for the redistribution of wealth and more revenue to the I.R.S. by restoring taxes eliminated since 2001, then they can have a raise.

6. Would that have affected the raises to military, SS, etc?
I don't think they deserved it either! But I think this is part of the COLA package. Do you know if they would have voted this dow, wouldn't that have eliminated the COLA increases in the Military and SS too?

7. They have to have expensive new suits to meet with Corporate Big Wigs
when they interview for the lucrative jobs they hope to land for allowing the corporations to write legislation and do their own regulating and enforcing. Even if a congress critter gave away the keys of government to corporations, they still have to compete against the other congress critters (and their family members) for the best lobbyist and/or CEO positions. Gotta spend $$ to make $$. Just ask Dick.

9. it is automatic every year since 1989 unless they vote to not have it
so far they have always cut services to regular folks and then turned around and as their last gesture every YEAR they give themselves a raise

4,000 x 15 years = $60,000 in raises over the last 15 years.

They do not care about people

17. it happens every year and until it hits the newspapers no one says
anything and no stops it because they passed an admendment to protect their salaries and the raise.......they are taking care of themselves with our money

they want no services or government welfare yet they are the biggest receipients - them and corporations - and corporations have them in their pockets - if you want money for ads you have to get it from corporations

and now we have the internet - but Bush is trying to block our means of grouping to get them

13. A good reminder of why I'm a socialist.
"America has it's own criminal class..politicians." Close as I can remember. I think it's one of Mark Twain's many jibes about the fatheaded morons who claim to be "public servants".

15. they passed a law a few years back that made it mandatory
to at least vote on a raise every year. So they can't really refuse to discuss it. A few brave souls vote against it every year too.

corrupt CEO runs company into the ground, but makes off with millions when he leaves.
