I've switched!! Brokaw OUT, Rather IN
Edited on Tue Sep-14-04 09:52 PM by Jack_Dawson
I can't believe it. I grew up watching NBC Nightly News w/ Tom Marblemouth and it's all I know. But this week I TiVo'd NBC and CBS and watched both nightly newscasts. CBS actually reports on dead Iraqis. CBS actually challenges the Bush Administration. CBS shows Bush AND Kerry soundbites.

In short, CBS seems BALANCED and OBJECTIVE. A far cry from anything else I've seen lately.

1. Good Jack. Now send Dan Rather at "evening@cbsnews.com" an email
telling him just that....he's being attacked by the media and the usual Rush mob.

4. Here's what I wrote to him:
Thanks for posting the addy........ it makes it easy, and inspires us to do what is right. :)

Mr. Rather...

I have been impressed lately with the reporting I'm seeing on your news program. After giving up on finding actual reporting of the situation our country is in, I'm gratified to find there is a real journalist who is willing to look for and broadcast the truth.

While others are just being mouthpieces for the misadministration, you are a true patriot for caring more about your country than about protecting those who would do this country harm.

I look forward to your reports!

Thank you.

3. Same here!
I was amazed by how more "adult" the news was with Rather.

I sent him the following email to show my appreciation and support:

Thank you, Dan Rather, for being one of the last true journalists of courage and integrity remaining on the planet!

Those of us who still value Truth over Propaganda respect and applaud you!

Please, oh please, continue your efforts and set the example for your fellow "journalists" who routinely cede to the pressures of the Bush Administration and become complicit in spreading their lies and obfuscations.

You, sir, are a true Hero! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

15. No response but I didn't expect any.
They must be inundated with email and calls. I just wanted to make sure they heard something positive in the midst of so much hostility and negativity.

7. When did CBS news become balanced?

I agree I've noticed the past few months it actually is not as right-leaning as the other major networks.

It still leans to the right. The run-up to the Iraq occupation was obvious and CBS News went right along with the party line. AFAIK CBS News has never mentioned how the Presidential news conferences have scripted questions and answers.

And of course CBS, the parent organization, has no problem refusing to telecast MoveOn.org ads but does a fine job of running SwiftVet ads.

So I wouldn't say CBS News is balanced.

I think CBS hasn't moved from the right. They just look more balanced because all the Fox wannabees went from centrist to right.

10. Egggsackly
CBS may be ever so slightly better -- but that doesn't make them "good" or even "fair and balanced."

8. Look at this on Peter Jennings
as well. I found this link to the 1/23/04 edition of "The Daily Howler" on "The Poor Man" site. Let's not forget how other members of the media have treated the subject of Bush's TANG duty.

12. TV News
None of the network news agencies (Big Three, Cable, PBS, etc) have done an good job informing the people. They were all quiet little mice during the 2000 Florida Recount Debacle and the run up to the Iraq War. I hope nobody here relies on them for information.

13. thats where you got it all wrong
They do rely on the crap that comes off the air----
I have a personal friend ( acquaintance now) who tells me he is an expert on the campaign because he listens to CNN, fox and all the major networks---and tells me he knows all the answers----there is no way you can inform someone like this---he thinks he is getting all the info he needs to make an intelligent decision-----guess who it is he will vote for------
