5. My husband is a native Texan
He says that in Texas, you keep your driver's license number, even if you move away for several years and then return. This happened to his mother, who left Texas during WWII, got married, and lived on the East Coast for about 20 years. After the death of his father, his mom moved back home with her kids-and got the same license number. He wonders not how Bush got the number change, but WHY.

8. I suspect it was to conceal the DUI. Or maybe there's more than
just the one DUI......

12. exactly right ... the WHY was suspected to be both DUI and drug bust
that poppy also got "fixed" for junior ... here's hoping that Dan Rather knows his way around TX enough to unearth those mysterious TX records -- let's face it, EVERY time * has a "mystery" there's a FIX in his records -- otherwise, there wouldn't have been a need for secrecy, misdirection, lies, and surrogates mouthing off freeper talking points

13. Sorry, your husband is wrong.
When I moved home, I asked for my old license number and was told no. I have a new number. Had my old number for 37 years.

6. Mine changed when I got married and changed my name,
but in WI (and many other states), that's understandable -- the first few digits correspond to your last name.

If you lose your license, but get it back eventually, are you issued a new number?

7. Actually,yes
I live in Mass. and when I first got my license your social security # was your license #.

After many renewals -Registry of Motor Vehicles here recommended that you NOT have your social security # double as your license #

11. Well, that's not the way it is in Tx!
They have a BIG problem with fraudulent licenses, and they're really careful about #'s following the person!

I think there were some states that did use your SS# and realized when all the Dr card fraud, and identity theft become so prominent, they were forced to make a change.

14. Same thing here
grew up in Indiana where the dl # and ssn# were the same. Didn't think much about it until I lived in two states that did not do this. When I returned years later and got a new license I was given the option of keeping the old number or getting a new one. I got a new one (so it doesn't match my ssn).

16. Yes, in Texas all criminal records are tied
to the DL#
Its is well known he had a DL re-issued and they refuse to answer questions about it. Its obviously to hide arrests/convictions that are tied to the original..

I do know because I live in Texas and researched it when it was originally reported.

19. do the texas licenses at that time have ss numbers?
i just went thru the whole dl-ss number changes here in illiniois..it`s not easy to do because alot of people have to shuffle paper but computers speed the process much faster than when george got his convictions dumped

17. if there was a change in numbers that
doesn`t erase the convictions-the past records are put on the new number. but more to the point there is no reason to change the number since he has lived in texas all his life. plus the records also should include ss numbers-these numbers don`t disappear because they are used by the legal system to check on prior convictions,etc,etc,..he had someone destroy the old records and issued a new number so nothing will show up anywhere-but they are out there somewhere...

18. documented in 'fortunate son' by james hatfield
pg 309-311. geebush is the only case ever of a new dr. lic number getting issued..."Bush obtained a new number (a nine digit 000000005) on march 31 1995 as a renewal instead of on his b/day, july 6, which a texas dept. of motor vehicles called 'highly unusual'"
>yep another 'smoking gun' (bush's convictions for drugs are inc in lic. record)

21. Every 4 years.
For decades, mine changed every time I renewed. The last time I renewed was the first time they began reassigning the same number.

This is in Ohio.

25. I lived in OH for 38 years
born and raised there and only moved away 7 years ago. My DL# was the same the whole time I was a licensed driver.

Now living in OK, they recently (4 years ago)underwent the change from SS# to a different number. Now we also have to give them a finger print when we renew. Mine expires next year, not sure what to do about that. I have no record but I don't like the implications of having to do this.
