ORMOND BEACH

"25 Nurses Fired for No Work in Frances

Florida Hospital-Ormond Memorial has fired or suspended about 25 nurses for not working during Hurricane Frances, hospital officials said.

Nurses were fired for not calling in, not showing up or refusing to work, while others were suspended for not completing a shift or coming late, said hospital spokeswoman Desiree Paradis-Warner."

My thoughts:I realize that requiring such workers to be there may be necessary. However, what the heck will the hospital do without the nurses? And what if these nurses had small children or elderly parents? There is more than one side to this issue.

2. When I worked in
the ICU we were required to stay with our patients no matter what. It was not easy to evacuate ICU patients, in fact it was impossible in most cases. Tornados came and went but we stayed. That is part of the job as difficult as that sounds. I do not know where I stand on this but I would have been there taking care of my patients.

It really was imposssible. People were being carjacked for gas. It was not very safe out there....
