So sad...kid in our school has National Guard dad in Iraq
today he read a letter to his dad, telling him what things are like here since he's been there....we have a TV studio in school, so we broadcast/taped it this morning

the SADDEST part is what he said about 911 and the war in Iraq.

he conflated the two, every bit as inexorably as the chimpwimp did, and our PRINCIPAL introduced him with a maudlin paean to the tragedy that was every bit a smarmy, jingoistic, and distorted as anything you've heard from the junta

when the boy made a specific reference to Iraq being a major component of the WOT, being led by our courageous squatter, I made a huffing noise similar to the ones Gore made during the debates. I did it, I thought, consciously, sotto voce, but several heads turned my way in surprise, so I guess I wasn't quite as reserved as I'd thought I was. Couldn't help it though. I WANTED to scream at the top of my lungs: WHAT are you TALKING about? This coward is the reason your father is over there unecessarily; the reason over a THOUSAND of his compatriots have been needlessly killed, along with tens of thousands of Iraqis.....etc

course I'd be on a very long vacation had I done that

I would sure like to talk to that boy a few years from now, when he's had a chance to think for himself.

1. People conceptualize things the way they have to to survive...
The boy's dad had to go. I am sure the child's mother must also tell herself that it is "necessary" for father to go to Iraq to fight the WOT. How could you mentally survive, otherwise?

The saddest part of all of this is that the WOT had not happened when most of these guys and gals in the National Guard enlisted. How could they have foreseen that they would be in Iraq? They have to reason this out in whatever way they can to keep their heads up.

This is a tough time for all National Guard families. We should be understanding of that.

2. The latest and perhaps last word on this from the rw
is that 9/11 and Iraq are the same thing. Tragically, this was said by that huge fat turd henry hyde yesterday. I suppose it was bound to come to this eventually.

3. that prick....being an Ililnoisan, I have a particularly regional loathing
for him

missed that statement

I realize that the families ratiocinate any way they can to lessen the emotional burden, but they have become such tools for the fascita

I wish I could have related better the scene today.....thinking about making a copy, digitizing it, and playing it webwise, but it'd be risky

it was quite compelling, and ineffably sad, as well as frustrating; maddening, even

4. Tragically, in a way, he is right. Both based on premise that mass killing
is the means to an end. Both were undertaken by people willing to destroy the lives of innocent bystanders to accomplish their goals.

5. Tough to buck the argument when even the idiots in congress
passed a resolution yesterday saying "there is a direct connection between the war in Iraq and the bombing of Sept. 11."

These are times that make me cry!!! Bad, bad, bad, I must be a Girlie Man!
