Why do I sense that I will be fighting my Country someday?
Wow! I can't believe I said that. This proud Vet who dearly loves his country actually has thoughts that I may be fighting it someday. If this country is "completely" taken over by folks with the Neo-Conservative mindset and I do decide to leave my country for the sake of my children, will I eventually find myself fighting the Neo-Con regime of the United States?

I think that world domination is the ultimate Neo-Con's wet dream. Who's to say that whatever country I settle in would not be in the cross-hairs of a U.S Neo-Con government?

Then again, it could simply be a revolution within the U.S that would inspire me to fight.

People get so huffy when we compare Bush to Hitler. I don't because Hitler was much smarter than Bunnypants. BUT I do compare ideologies of the two regimes and I can't help but see very similar parallels to both.

1. You would be fighting *for* your country
"They" are the ones who are sworn enemies of the constitutional Republic, and openly in league with those who attacked us on Sept. 11 (Saudis).

2. You will not fight your country.
But it is the duty of every citizen to protect his Country from his government.

Take heart, fellow Liberals. As Gandhi taught us:

First they ignore you,
then they laugh at you,
then they fight you,
then you win.

3. As Albert Camus once said...
"I wish I could love my country, and justice too."

I to have had the same thoughts, I cannot beleive I would ever think this way. I have went so far as to plan the ousourceing of my compant to Canada if Bunnypants is reselected.
I have also got all ny gear around and ready to fight again.
But America must be America again. And under this corrupt administration it will never be.

God Bless America, Kerry/Edwards for a better America

5. About that Hitler comparison...
My college campus had a refugee conference last spring, and it was one of the few distinguished events that my tiny little campus has had the priviledge of hosting. Anyway, there was a victim speaking who was kept in two concentration camps and was also in Auschwitz (sp?) under Hitler; her entire family had been killed. I was one of the organizers, and, (and as I do everyday) I was wearing my Kerry button when this tiny little German lady (all of 4'10'' tall!) came up and asked me to show her to the bathroom. As we were walking, she said (in a thick German accent): "I love your button" to which I said thank you. She said to me (and I quote): "I do not like you Americans' Bush. He reminds me of Hitler." Her exact words - "he reminds me of Hitler - from a surivor of Hitler's regime.

So the GOP can kiss my ass about that Hitler comparison. IMHO, he conservative movement today, while I'd never claim they're exactly alike, has many of the same basic and inherent characteristics of fascism. And btw, since when do they hesitate to call me a "commie liberal"?

6. You're right, but it doesn't have to come to that
The reason that the future looks that bleak is our(Democrats) own fault. Instead of forcefully opposing the neo-con's too many have allowed themselves to be rolled by them. We'll never capture the attention of the uninterested public with lukewarm opposition, and in many cases support, of the neo-con agenda.

In the end, if it came to it, I'd be fighting right along with you. I just hope that some of the movers and shakers in our party realize the need for a change in approach before it comes to that.

7. As I wrote to one of my very best friends today,
I'll be standing on the shores of Norway welcoming dissidents as political refugees (what? arrests without trials, torture, etc is as valid a reason for refugee status for Americans as it is for Nigerians and Burmese) and protesting the wars in Iran, North Korea, and wherever else Bush and cohorts decide would be a good idea in order to fight their continuous wars - must keep the nation at war so that the little people will accept any and all sacrifices they have to make. I bet Cheney considers 1984 his true Bible.

That's what I wrote, and that's what I think will happen. The US will sink down to third-world level, not only in the living conditions for its poor, but also in government. Bush will be mentioned alongside Mugabe, arap Moi, Amin, Kim etc. as examples of leaders who have put their own interests ahead of their people's. And I will be fighting it from across the pond alongside you.

8. Some of us have been fighting for years. I don't mean with.......
violence, but fighting nonetheless. In my case, I've been "fighting" for democratic principals for over 35 years. For doing so, I have been physically attacked several times by fascists (I fought back too!), harassed by the feds, had drugs planted in my car, and have been jailed. All of this took place during the Nixon/Vietnam period.

This period in history reminds me so much of the "Nixon" days. My campaign signs were torn down, and I was attacked while handing out McGovern campaign materials. It didn't stop me though, from putting on concerts to facilitate voter registration, marching against the war and the Kent State killings, and doing everything I could to defeat those who were/are harming our nation.

I continue to march, work voter registration, write articles and LTTE's, and support Democratic candidates as best I can.

But you know, this time does feels different.....very different. The evil ones are much better organized than they've ever been, and they practice no-holds barred nasty politics, fueled with billions of ill-gotten dollars from corporations and wealthy fascists. The result is, like you, I am wondering if "passive" politicking is, or will continue to be, relevant. I also now wonder if our democracy has been so compromised by the neocons, corporate oligarchs, and fascists, that our democracy is already dead, or at least, on life support.

And I wonder, what steps must now be taken to restore our Constitution, and our democracy, and I don't like the answers I am coming up with. Will the fascists leave us no choice but to have what essentially be another Civil War (but this time, by and between democratic, and anti-democratic forces)? Time will tell. The vote, and how the election is handled on Nov. 2nd, will tell.

In the meantime, I will continue to do all I can......
