I desperately need help locating someone in Florida
Edited on Thu Sep-09-04 12:21 PM by dolo amber
My mother (for reasons I don't want to get into here, obv.) is/was in some sort of domestic violence/homeless type shelter (Lakeland area) the last I spoke with her. This was approximately 2 1/2 months ago. In the interim I've had my landline disconnected, and now I realize I probably never gave her the new cell #. I called the # I had for her at the shelter, but she's no longer there and as such can't verify I should have any info regarding her whereabouts, so they can't tell me anything.

I've just tried the last email addy I had for her, and it bounced back as undeliverable.

I know this is a far stretch that anyone might have any info on how to track down someone in this circumstance, but any suggestions AT ALL will be greatly appreciated.

1. If you can scratch up the dough, maybe a PI would be best?

2. Was the shelter run privately?
If she is hooked up with some kind of social services, Legal Aid, something like that, you might be able to get a message to her through them. Can't they just accept the message without confirming or denying that they can reach her?

4. That's actually a good idea
When they said she wasn't there I didn't think to go ahead and leave a message. I'll try that right now. :)

Thanks!

11. If it was domestic violence, they should indeed
have a record of her, I would think. Of course, it might be tough getting them to listen -- but IMO Legal Aid would be the same situation, if for no other reason than that they are seriously overworked and underfunded these days. That's always been the case but it's so much worse under Republicans, as a rule.

9. I'm still a little wary of that Spam Filter, but this I don't mind getting
tombed for.

I agree with contacting Legal Aid, etc., down there.

12. Make sure to leave a message
most domestic abuse shelters WILL NOT give out any information on their current residents. Part of their existence is to protect those they harbor. You can say you are a relative all day long...as far as they know you are the abuser...they should not tell you anything and leave it up to her to contact you after leaving a message. If she is still there they will pass it along...if not, the suggestions of contacting the local police is a good idea.

13. Hoping you find her...
and kicking so that people more qualified than I can try to help. I do think leaving a message at the shelter and/or asking the police to do a check on her thereby getting your message to her is a good idea. With the hurricane damage, it may impede things a bit. I'm hoping you hear soon.

14. Thanks, everyone
I've left a message with the last # I had for her; unfortunately the area of Fla. she was in was hit pretty hard by Frances...so it's really hard to tell when/if I might hear anything. I imagine they're all pretty busy with other things now. I'm going to try the county Human Services Dept. tomorrow...I distinctly remember her saying she'd qualified for Medicaid and was thrilled she'd be able to get her medication. Maybe they'll be able to get in touch with her.

Again, thanks everyone...I really appreciate it. :)

I don't know what the problem is. Hurricane damage, I guess.
