I oppose unions. So now I have to cross a picket line to put food in my house. Or I could walk 3 miles to the closest non-union grocery store.

...collective bargaining, the people would have no power against fascist corporations. The neocons intend to gut collective bargaining and destroy the unions. Crossing picket lines helps them.

I know it's a hassle to deal with strikes but, if there's any way to reasonably avoid crossing picket lines, please try.

5. You really need to talk to some Walmart employees.

I was against unions too, for years! There was a time when they were way too powerful and forced companies out of many atates, causing lots of job loss. Believe me, I used to live in Pgh, Pa. It was very bad. Things have changed now. The reason Unions came into being was because of employee abuse. I hate to say it, but the days for need of unions is back. Walmart demands employees work Off the clock, waits until they clock out, then locks the doors and insists they finish their task before they can leave. If you don't believe me, do a google on Walmart lawsuits. Parents of juvilile employees have sued them for forcing underage kids to work past midnight. All of these things are illegal...even without a union. Walmart thinks they are so powerful, they can get away with it.

I sympathize with you not wanting to cross a picket line, and I sure couldn't walk 3 mile to get groceries AND THEN HAVE TO CARRY THEM BACK! But don't be so judgemental of your grocery store union. There are the days of "The Corporation Rules". Most are making big $$$ and saying the hell with the employees.

you've never worked in a supermarket.

When I worked at Kroger's, the only reason employees weren't fired for no reason was because of the UFCW. The owner liked to sneak in at night, go upstairs to his office with the lights out, and spy on the employees. If he had his way, we would've been fired for taking breaks after being on our feet for four hours.

But I guess they're just lowly bag boys and cashiers, who cares, right? Fuck 'em since they have the gaul to want good working conditions. God forbid they make your day harder.
