Is Gen. Tommy Franks a coward? (do other officers like him?)

Tommy Franks Knew Truth about Bush's Illegal War, Yet Remained Silent to Further His Own Career

All through the build up to war and into the war, even as thousands of Iraqis and scores of Americans were dying, Tommy Franks remained silent about the truth, just to further his own career. But, as AP reports, " asserted Sunday that the general who ran the war in Afghanistan (Franks) said more than a year before the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq that his resources were being shifted in preparation for taking on Saddam Hussein. Graham contends that just months into combat in Afghanistan, Gen. Tommy Franks also told him that fighting terrorism in Somalia, Yemen and elsewhere should take priority over invading Iraq. Graham said Franks told him he thought the United States knew less about the situation in Iraq than did some European governments, and the Bush administration should ask them for advice."

Graham said on NBC's "Meet the Press" that his meeting with Franks was at the general's headquarters, Central Command in Tampa, Fla.

"He laid out a very precise strategy for fighting the war on terror," Graham said.

"First, we should win the war in Afghanistan. Second, move to Somalia, which as he described was almost anarchy but with a substantial number of al-Qaida cells; then to Yemen. And that we should be very careful about Iraq, because our intelligence was so weak that we didn't know what we were getting into," Graham said

Last week, Franks gave fellow Texan Bush a rousing endorsement in a speech at the Republican National Convention. Franks said he had seen in Bush's eyes "the courage to stand up to terrorists and the consistency necessary to beat them."

3. It can be, depending on the situation.
If I were living in a state that was in anarchy, martial law would be an improvement. I think the new Iraqi "government" is thinking of martial law for Iraq to help quell the violence.

4. Lay off Franks
He is a good soldier (rose from Private to General) and he did a good job with the invasion part but was hamstrung by W/Rummy/Dick both in the aftermath (peace) and by diverting attention and resources from Afghanistan-he told Bob Graham just that (I think it was).

He also said on Hannity's show that Kerry WAS ready to be Commander in Chief.

Aside from all that picking a fight over Franks is not going to win you very many friends right now.

8. He also said that if Smirk had asked him if it was a good idea to
invade IraqNam he would have said "Yes, enthusiastically". I heard him say this shit in an interview in the last few days.

He's a warmongering asshole.

7. People who go along with things they know are wrong are cowards
They need to speak out. As they say - "If you aid and abet a crime or remain silent you are also guilty."
