Johnny's Got A Gun!
The good coal miners of West "By Gawd" Virginia gave it to him yesterday! A fine brand new automatic 12 gage shotgun with a vent ribbed barrel! I think it was a SMART move! The gun issue is STILL an issue here in Wv! I haven't heard much about it this cycle and I thought it had gone away, but I found out from the mouth of a Babe, that I was dead wrong!

A couple of weeks ago my 12 year old grandson came to visit me! We were sitting and watching TV when one of the Bush ads came on! The content of the attack ad had nothing to do with guns, but I noticed the lad was watching and paying close attention to the ad on the TV! I asked the boy this question, "If you were old enough to vote, would you vote for Bush or Kerry?" His first response was, "If John Kerry wins, he will take away my guns!" He went on to say, that he didn't like Bush, but that he loved to go hunting!

I told the boy, that John Kerry liked to hunt and fish too and that John Kerry would never take away his sporting arms! Where he got the idea that Kerry would take his guns I have not a clue, because his mother and dad are both life long democratic party supporters! All the kid's grandparents are democrats also! I have thought about this chat for a couple of weeks now and it worries me more than anything that anyone has said to me since the beginning of campaign 2004!

The gun issue beat Al Gore in Wv in 2000 and if John Kerry wants to carry WV in November, he had better advertise the fact, that he does not intend to take anyone's guns away from them! What really strikes me about the gun thing, which still lingers here in the mountains, is that the GOP has not really pushed the issue here this election cycle, like they did in 2000! I had thought that the gun issue was more or less a non issue this time, but I was WRONG!

The DNC had better spend some of the cash they are pouring into this state, on some gun ads of their own, ASAP!

1. As I've been saying here to..
.... anyone who will listen (and it ain't many :)) - the gun issue is a wedge issue we hand the GOP on a silver platter, and we get jack squat in return.

Most gun regulation is as effective as pot/drug regulation, which is to say it is completely ineffective. Stupid laws like the AWB accomplish absolutely nothing except to give the GOP another wedge.

God and gays, well there is not much room for compromise there, but GUNS, forgetaboutit.

3. We hear nothing but the ROAR of the GOP about the Terra-ist...
threat to mainland America! What we se in reality is an administration that spends Billions on a War in Iraq and very little on REAL "Homeland Security"! Hanging on to your arms for self defense, has Never been a bigger issue, than it is today!

2. It's like a Repub trying to convince someone they are pro environment...

it is very difficult. People appear to have their minds set about the parties on certain issues, and gun control is one...and it costs us dearly.

Kerry's voting record on guns doesn't help much. He returned to the senate this year to vote for renewing the POS bill renewing the assualt weapons ban. I haven't heard him say squat about gun control since the primary, which likely has helped him, but if he isn't denouncing it, he will be labelled as a gun grabber...so being quite on a subject is only good for so long.

I think Kerry could do well on this issue by stating that he supports closing the "gun show loophole" WITH NICS (instant background check) and doesn't support new legislation. This is the right thing to do and would help him big in WV, PA, FL, MI, WI, MN,NM and NH.

5. You are absolutely correct...
I did forget that. In fact, any state in the south that is close should have been listed, and the west as well.

6. Why not e-mail this picture to your worried friends?
JK skeet shooting in Ohio.

It's available at www.johnkerry.com, click on blog.

Also, tell them that while some democrats favor gun control, others of us, like me for instance, see the issue as a constitutional guarantee. Democrats accept each other even if they have different views on the issues, only repugs require you to march in lockstep with the powers that be.

7. John Kerry had better speak up!
Edited on Tue Sep-07-04 07:47 AM by Hubert Flottz
I'm not running for president, nor am I running the DNC! I just send them cash and hope they are smart enough to spend it! Al Gore never forcefully impressed his REAL stand on gun control in 2000 and it cost us all dearly!

Al Gore came here and gave an hour long speech on the capitol steps in 2000! The speech contained about ten words or less, on the issue of Gun Control! Bush came here 3 times in 2000 and preached that Gore wanted to take people's guns away! The NRA sent Mr. Heston here a time or two also, to represent the NRA/GOP view! I know MANY lifelong democrats here, who voted for Bush in 2000, because of the gun issue! Hardcore democratic union members supported Bush in 2000, because of the Gun Blitz here! It looks like history may repeat itself unless the gun situation is put to rest here, this cycle!

Edit for Boo-Boos
