I see him as a person who is not psychologically capable of believing in anything or commitment to anything. So everything comes across as "an act", insincere, sort of "whatever." We know he has little capability for empathy, so his handlers can make him say or do most anything they want.

He does have a capability for false "folksiness" which has an appeal to some people, unfortunately.

He is probably also getting bored with this role-playing, 4 years is a long time, not to be in charge of your own person.

cowboy fratboy habit to help him appear more masculine (after the preppy Andover cheerleader days) and now has become popular with the other faux warriors. It appeals to the anti-intellectual crowd who are scared by smart guys like Clinton and Kerry. Bush is a sham. But he plays with others who are likewise shams. They're not jocks. But they can swagger. They're not CEOs of successful businesses. But they can pretend they are and vote for a guy who knows CEOs. They're not decorated veterans. But they can wear the persona just like Dubya did when he wore a borrowed flight suit and landed on a carrier. It's all dress-up for the guys who have a dozen GI Joes in their closets along with their assault weapons and porno.
They're not men. They just play like men in their fantasies.
