Dear Senator Lautenberg,
I have terrible misgivings regarding our next presidential election.
Recently, a race in Florida between Arthur Andersen and LaPore once again resulted in behind the scenes shenanigans that, despite the intrigue, barely resulted in honest results.
The Electronic Voting Machines created and administered by Diebold Corp are even more troubling.
Despite the statement by Diebold’s CEO to “Ensure the George Bush is elected President”, despite the fact that these machines have been, time and time again, proven to be unreliable, and despite the fact that our elections commission has had four long years to correct the problem – we are no closer to a solution.
Senator, regardless of the outcome, the votes need to be accounted for and verified accurately. The current state of this issue does not lead me to believe that this will be the case.
I am aware of your sound and vigorous support of John Kerry as a Presidential Candidate, and I applaud that decision. Having said that, what recourse do we have should a repeat of the 2000 election take place?
It’s clear that the RNC is making a strong effort to build their candidate’s polling position to be equal to or superior to John Kerry’s. While the evidence of GW’s popularity is suspect, the fact of the matter is, should a run-off election take place, unregulated and poorly supervised election accounting could result in an abortion of a basic constitutional right – the one to choose our leaders by mandate.
Senator, please bring this issue to the forefront. The players and their policy stance have already been decided, and math is on our side. However, this current administration has demonstrated a proclivity for grasping power, and it is my sincere belief that they would stop at nothing to remain entrenched.
Thanks you for your continued efforts and your magnificent representation of this constituent.
