1. He's fundamentalist
Evangelical is a tad more "liberal" than fundies.

I think he might even be a charismatic, which means he believes in the "gift" of speaking in tongues, or glossalalia.

15. I certainly don't think Ashcroft is persuasive, dynamic, or
appealing to the intellect or has powers of reasoning to normal thinking people.

How could this mental case have a "gift of tongues" Gimme a break!

18. Well, it's a gift only certain people can interpret.
<honest, I'm not making this up>

Charismatics believe that the only true proof of a person's conversion to Christianity is a recreation of the event in the NT when the Holy Spirit descended upon the disciples in the form of tongues of fire, whereupon they all began speaking in tongues and praising God.

Nowadays, this "gift" appears in the form of glossalalia - kind of a gibberish language that can only be interpreted by those with, naturally, the gift of interpretation. At other times, those with the gift pray to God in their "prayer language" which supposedly expresses the truest desires of their heart, bypassing the frailties of the brain.

Well, on THAT we all agree.

2. Fundamentalists believe in a set of fundamentals.
Usually they believe that every word in the Bible is a literal fact and interpret it thusly.

Evangelicals shove their views down your throat. Evangelism is "witnessing."

Coming from a fundevangelical family, school, neighborhood, I find the whole thing disgusting.

14. Sojourners describes Christians and Christianity
in the way it should be - a way that actually might not turn everyone completely off of religion. Unlike most representations today.

5. What's the difference.
Evangelicals are somewhat more intellectual than fundies. They may take some of the stories and passages in the Bible as allegorical in nature. Typical evangelical denoms are Methodist, most Baptist, Lutherans - lots of the big names you've heard of.

Fundies are more localized - they don't usually go for big denoms. They believe in biblical inerrancy - no mistakes in the Bible in the original texts (which no longer exist, naturally). They take the Bible very literally - seven-day creation, miracles literal, etc.

16. I agree he is a carnival barker who appeals to the worst
in people, his father was a traveling preacher. We tried so hard to get rid of this guy in Missouri and they made us look like fools when the people confrirmed him for ag.

12. No matter what his religious beliefs are, they don't belong
in his job. It's against our constitution. He should do his job as it is meant to be done. When he leaves the office, he can worship whomever he pleases. That is the contract. He has broken that contract numerous times. He is incompetent at his job as far as I am concerned.
