James Wolcott on Kitty Kelley Book
It's unseemly, the lipsmacking excitement that's sweeping certain districts of blogland over the imminent publication of Kitty Kelley's The Family, a guacamole-spattered group portrait of the Bushes.

True, some of the alleged revelations sound as if they'll add piquancy to the political season.

How Barbara Bush ran over a Guatamalan with her golf cart and tried to compensate the grieving family with "colorful beads." How George Bush senior went whoring with Sam Peckinpah in Mexico during pre-production of The Wild Bunch. The Elvis White Panty Parties that the teenage Bush twins would reenact for the sordid entertainment of Prince Bandhar on "Saudi Night" at the Crawford ranch. Laura Bush smoking Kools and nagging her husband about how come the ranch isn't staffed with "strapping bucks" like the plantation in Mandingo.* And then there is the chapter devoted to George Bush's lost years in the National Guard, and his special bunkmate, who knew the ingredients of a great rubdown.

But I think we should wait for the book itself before chipping in to buy Kitty a tiara and crown her our Queen. We have been disappointed before hoping this book (Richard Clarke's) or that (Ron Suskind's) would diminish the boyish charm of George Bush in the public's eyes.

Nevertheless, I've preordered my copy and urge all Americans and illegal immigrants to do likewise.

*...I always suspected her literary pretensions were bogus.

He's a long time writer for the Villiage Voice and Vanity Fair magazine.
Very smart/observant of all things political and cultural. BRILLIANT at
trashing the current media mess.

I'm a big fan.

19. That's exactly how I feel!
I confess that one of my guilty pleasures is getting the personal dirt on hypocritical conservatives.

I am truly ashamed of myself, but I can't help it.

smacks down the right-wing whores better than Al Frankin ....

Laura Bush smoking Kools and nagging her husband about how come the ranch isn't staffed with "strapping bucks" like the plantation in Mandingo.*

Is this Laura's idea of reaching out to the African-American vote???

15. My Bob Graham's book order is already placed
But Ms Kelly's book should be just the ticket for the mentality of this country's followers of Kobe, Jacko, Lacy Peterson and such hog-wash.... Perfect responce to the Swift Boat liars out rageous tale. Give em sensationalism, they'll bite every time!

11. Oh-----------My---------------Zeus!
The fundies' heads will explode over twins-panties-BANDAR and Pickles/Mandingo. Officially, they might complain about Shrub's bunkmate and rubdowns, but unofficially, they probably "understand".

Still, I hope that the "five major bombshells" (below) are even bigger than these.

August 30, 2004 -- ....

THE gossip around: Kitty Kelley's Bush family vivisection gets published right after the convention, when residents return to civilization. It allegedly "has five major revelations." Supposedly, familial indiscretions naming names, places, times, etceteras. Plus W's documented missing year and service record.

but Kitty Kelley can? Beautiful! Also, the Bandar and Mandingo stories are going to "test" the "diversity" of the pug party.

16. James Wolcott's trashing in words should be put in pictures on TV.
It is only then Kitty Kelley's trashing will become effective. The scenes can be reenacted with standins for all the characters and aired as ads from Moveon or other 527 orgs.Printed words may make us DUers feel good but it is the images that can do lasting damage. We need to get a hold of a couple of good Admen on our side to start the ball rolling and hit them hard with these kinds of salacious ads.The juicier, the better.Lots of sex, drugs, lies. The American public eats that shit up. No more playing the good guys. got to get down in the gutter and fight like junkyard dogs.

Wolcott's preview reads like a description of the Beverly Hillbillies on acid.

21. A reference to James Bath? I don't think Victor Ashe was in the guard
although I believe Ashe was Georgie's roommate at Yale:
