You folks who are calling Hurricane Frances just a thunderstorm are idiots
who really don't know what the fuck you are talking about.... I know, I know, it's preempted a couple of days of your political news, but fuck, it was one hell of a Hurricane for millions of people..

I have sat through this thing for 3 days and I'm still sitting through it... It ain't no Thunderstorm!

1. It's just a fraternity prank
Sorry, don't mean to make light of the hurricane. As Frances regroups it may make an assault on the Fla. panhandle. Hope folks down there don't get hit too hard.

2. Not only is it a horrific storm but I imagine there is the element of the
unknown, where you cannot be sure how much worse it will get. I'm in CA but I completely understand.

Hang in there! I'm thinking of you all.

4. I'm currently under a Torando watch
and the gusts are still 30 plus.... We are so saturated with Water that I can barely walk in my yard without sinking in mud...And I have a nice green thick lawn.

6. You got that right, buddy.... There's a lake in the back that was never
there before, I've got a leak in my roof, and it's still raining. I thought I would wake up this morning to Frances being in the gulf and completely out of here, but it's still pummeling us... and now tornadoes sighted all around.

Why do people want to hear about the convention anyway?

7. You poor folks in Florida have my deepest sympathy
and my hopes for your safety. I know what you've gone through; I weathered a category 3 hurricane, hurricane Alicia, in my home here in Houston twenty years ago, and it was truly frightening. Fortunately, we had no injuries, minimal property damage, and were without power for only 18 hours. I hope Ivan misses Florida entirely, and comes nowhere near Houston. :grouphug:

11. I Agree, But !

Anyone who called it a thunderstorm is an idiot.

But why does the whole country need 24/7 news coverage of a hurricane in one state ?

It should only be covered by the weather channel and the local Florida news stations. CNN, MSNBC, and FOX should not be doing 24/7 coverage of a hurricane. They could report on it, but 24/7 coverage is ridiculous.

I am glad it knocked the RNC crap out of the news, and a hurricane is a serious situation, but let's be honest, this hurricane only effects people in Florida. I think it is ridiculous for all 3 cable news channels to give 24/7 coverage of a weather problem in one state.

I am in Illinois, if a hurricane was to hit in my state I would think it would also be ridiculous for it to be a national news story that got 24/7 coverage on all the cable news channels.

I was shocked that CNN, MSNBC, and FOX were giving 24/7 coverage to a weather problem that only effects one state.

13. Because there are millions of human beings in Florida
who are in harms way..... It's a big news story no matter what you folks think who are not effected. Plus it's on the heels of a Hurricane that just kicked our asses like no other, (Charley)

I just got major offended by some of the snarly posts here on DU from some who think that this er "drizzle" isn't news worthy!

18. My in-laws are in Stuart
That's where Frances made landfall...I appreciated the coverage while I worried how they would come thru, particularly since they live in a double-wide. (By good fortune, they sustained virtually no damage, but many of their neighbors were devestated)

20. It's gone from my area, but MAN it took a long time
Winds started picking up Saturday morning, got really bad about 1100 PM, peaked about 0300 AM Sunday, then had off and on gust and rain until late afternoon.

Lot of rain, lots of downed trees in my area. power still out for a lot of folks (ours was out from 1000 Saturday until 2100 Sunday night).

I think we are still under a tornado watch until 1400, but I haven't noticed any appreciable wind this morning.

21. Frances comin' t'git me?
We Pensacolians have been getting wind gusts from Francis for the past two days and nights and the temps dropped again, like they did when Bonnie came our way and hit Panama City. Right now, I'm seeing some of the bands from this one. I'm feeling weary about this particular storm. Even if she hits Destin, as projected, she could still cause a lot of wind damage here, because we're really not that far from Destin. We'll still get hit by this one if the eye strikes Destin. It's so damned big!
