*** OFFICIAL DU CLINTON WELL-WISHERS THREAD #5 ****
In response to the news about Bill Clinton's health scare and surgery, many DU members have already approached me to ask if we could do something for him. I briefly discussed it with the other Admins, and here's what we've decided to do.

We would like all concerned DU members to post their well-wishes in this thread. You can post as much or as little as you like. If you'd like, you may consider signing your post with your name and hometown. I will open additional official well-wishers threads as necessary.

Once everyone has had ample opportunity to post their thoughts, I will print out or transcribe the thread(s) and forward them to Bill Clinton's office, along with a card or flowers or some other appropriate gift.

I trust that all DU members will participate in this thread with the appropriate level of respect. Inappropriate or disruptive comments will not be appreciated.

Thank you.

David Allen
DU Administrator

This is thread #5. Here are Thread #1, Thread #2, Thread #3, and Thread #4.

1. My fondest wishes for a complete and speedy recovery.
Dear President Clinton,

I cannot say how disturbing it was to hear of your chest pain and subsequent hospitalization and surgery. I am heartened to hear that your prognosis is good.

All of my best wishes for your recovery and continued good health.

Sincerely,

Thomas Johnson, lifelong member of the Democratic Party.

President Clinton,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you now and this week as you undergo surgery. Being the fighter that you are, we know you will cruise throught the surgery and be much healthier as a result of it.

Dear President Clinton,

You are in our prayers. We hope that your recovery is swift and that the well wishes and love we all send helps strengthen your spirit.

You will always be remembered by my husband and I as the greatest President of our lifetimes. You were the first person I voted for in a national election. I was 21 in 1992.

Your continued hard work and dedication to the country is an inspiration to us all.

President Clinton--

I'm sure you've gotten a million notes wishing you well. I hope you know that you deserve every single one. I was lucky enough to get to see you at your Berkeley book signing. I waited 17 hours, and never actually got in, but before you left, you signed a bunch of books outside and mine was the first you signed.

You have a strong heart and I hope you continue to keep it so. We need you out there in the world of politics. I would enclose a personal trainer and taebo tape if I could, but it's difficult to attach through the internet. :)

best wishes and all my love

23. Heal Quickly
In the mid 1980s, my father came home from a national meeting of educators in Washington D.C. where you were the keynote speaker (I was about 10 years old). When he came home he remarked, "I met the future president of the United States." When we asked him your name, he couldn't remember - all he knew is that you were governor of Arkansas. When you appeared onstage in the 1988 convention, my father said "That's him! That's the man I told you about!"

The rest is history. You were a great president, and continue to inspire the world. Please take care of yourself and heal quickly. The world needs you!!!

Hello, Mr. President.

I hope you have a full and speedy recovery from your bypass. We are excited here about the opening of your Presidential Center. It looks great. I drove over to the North Little Rock riverbank last week to see what it looks like from across the river - very impressive. Hope to be able to see you at the big opening. You're the best, so take care of yourself.

26. Thinking of you and your family
Here's hoping all goes well with your surgery and a rapid recovery. I was so shocked to see the news yesterday and am hoping very much that you are feeling like your old self again soon.

I hope Chelsea and Hillary are handling things ok, too.

I'm in Bangkok and everyone I've spoken to here has expressed concern and good wishes, so good wishes from Thailand, and good wishes from my home town in New Hampshire, too.

We're all thinking of you and sending good thoughts.

You and your family are obviously in the hearts and prayers of MANY, and I add my one voice from California's Central Coast to their voices.

I've been hearing the recuperation time is two months, and it's two months until the election -- Do what the doctors tell you to do, even if it means missing the rest of this year's campaign, because our nation needs your presence in times to come beyond this November.

Blessings of the Lady be with you,

Hekate

... and boy, do WE MISS YOU!

I was out of the country, in Jamaica, during the 1992 elections--was in a neighborhood bar when the news came out that you'd won and even the Jamaicans were toasting and high-fiving you, and congratulating me for getting a new president (they did not at all care for your predecessor).

About a year ago I was fortunate enough to hear you speak at the University of Florida--it was wonderful to hear someone who is well-read, intelligent and so very articulate give an insightful and thought-provoking speech--I miss that and I miss the way the country was upbeat, tolerant and prosperous during your terms.

You were the greatest, President Clinton, and I wish you a speedy recovery.

Sincerely,

Mr. Clinton,
You have faced many tough times, this is one of them. Getting old is a bitch, and getting cut open is a drag. Be strong, be calm and seek peace. You need to walk out of that hospital with your chin up and your eyes on the prize. This country, and this world, is in grave danger and you can do a lot to help it be safe again. See the world with new eyes because it is a new world for you.

President Clinton,

I am praying for your speedy recovery after your surgery, as I am sure many people are. Democrats sincerely need your leadership during this campaign, and everyone needs your compassion for as long as you are willing to give it to those who suffer in the world. You are the greatest President I have seen in my lifetime, and I hope that my 6 year old son has the privilege of seeing a President of your caliber in his lifetime. Hillary perhaps? Hmmmmmmmm!

Sincerely,

Heather Golet-Watts

recovery....I have to thank you for working right up to the last minute by advising the Kerry campaign! I thank you because you were thinking of our country and people like me who are afraid to see Bush in office for another 4 years, even as you faced a serious operation.

I'm just so grateful everything is OK and that you'll be inspiring me and many others for years to come!!

Best wishes to you, Hillary and Chelsea!!!

You are the South's homegrown son, Bill, and we who still have our integrity are so proud of what you have done both personally and presidentially. I read your book from cover to cover and I must say that I have never been so moved or so inspired by any piece of literature in my life. I have always known that I loved politics, but your book convinced me that it is the road that I am destined to take (I'm writing this in college right now). Thank you so much for all you have done and may you get well soon.

Your Truly,

Nick Shea

Having lost my father to heart disease, my prayers go out to you and your family at this time.

Strength to you and especially your family in a very difficult time for them.

Thanks for everything you did; if not for your policies we'd really be up a body of water without a rowing device. I often wonder what would have happened if Bush had started with a pre-Clinton economy instead of the one you left us, and just imagining the results makes me shiver.

Please get well soon, we need the support and momentum that only our last legitimately-elected president can bring.

All the best,

RS

106. The operation is a success!
These were the best words I have heard since my father had quadruple bypass surgery in 1994.
Now you need to rest and heal. Today I was glad to hear you are breathing on your own and talking to your family.
Soon you will be up and running!

I was also glad to hear you spent 90 minutes of your precious pre-operative time with John Kerry on the phone, advising him on his campaign. Please continue to advise where you see fit.
We need a two-term president to get rid of the one-term loser!

You are in my prayers daily, and I wish you the very best on your road to recovery!

Now... don't stop your anti-cholesterol medicine!
I made the same mistake several years ago and paid for it with a stroke!
Your supporter and friend,
PD Crowe
