Rank the post-Civil Rights Presidents...
1. Clinton (Often didn't go far enough on social/moral issues, WRONG WRONG WRONG on China/Taiwan, but considering the "competition" he's the best.)
2. Carter (A few fuck-ups, but not bad for an American President)
3. Ford (Less bad than the other Republicans because didn't have the time to fuck up.)
4. Nixon (Better than the other three due to his domestic policy's flashes of competence, still nasty)
5. Raygun (Most overrated President in U.S. history. Spend too much time giving the religious reich blow jobs on domestic issues, foreign policy consisted of overthrowing democratically elected leftist governments)
6. Poppy (I don't have two hours...)
7. Dumbya (No really.)

1. I'm not familiar with Poppy's policies

So I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and go:

Clinton
Carter
Ford
Bush
Nixon
Raygun
Shrub

2. WEll, I look at things a little differently

and I don't think Clinton was good for working people (well, we had jobs but we weren't getting anywhere, while CEOs embezzled and wealth concentration continued at the fastest pace since the 20s). I don't think Nixon was that bad, considering his foreign policy exclusive of Vietnam (which he inherited, along with the hawks in his party) and his signing into law things like the EPA. Poppy was certainly better than Raygun.

1. Carter
2. Nixon
3. Clinton
4. Ford
5. Poppy
6. Reagan
7. Dummy

3. What a sorry bunch.
1. Carter - Not as bad as the rest.
2. Clinton - Took the party and "triangulated" it to the right. His record on Rwanda is shameful. His record on social issues pathetic. Good on civil rights.
3. Ford - Didn't do much damage.
4. Poppy - Transparantly arrogant, but fortunately blinded by his own press.
5. Reagan - A disaster in all respects. Made shallow, insipid, stupidity dressed up as "a nice guy" a benchmark for presidential candidates. Beyond that, a list too long to enumerate.
6. Dumbya - Given enough time to live up to his potential he may even surpass Reagan in stupidity and Nixon in bloodshed.
7. Nixon - The ultimate politician who would do anything to enhance himself. The slaughter in SE Asia gives him the bottom rung on the ladder down to the cesspool.

I voted for Carter and Clinton under the "not as bad" theory. Alas, I will be doing it again this time for Kerry but only because of Bush's potential to supercede every previous president as the most destructive.

4. Reagan was as bad as Nixon on foreign policy...
And Nixon's domestic policy was arguably less conservative than Clinton's.

5. What is "Post Civil Rights"?
Title 9 was passed after 1973, American's with Disabilities Act was passed afer 1973, Community Standards from the Supreme Court on "Obscene Material" was - as was the striking down of sodomy laws...

7. I'm guessing
..it means the Civil Rights Act, passed under LBJ's administration. 1965 I think. You're right, we still have a *lot* of work to do on civil rights. The struggle continues.

6. 1. Carter, 2. Clinton...
Edited on Sun Sep-05-04 10:35 PM by 69KV
1. Carter. The last of the old-line Dem presidents, along the lines of FDR-Truman-JFK. An honest, all around good guy. Repukes crucified him for no good reason.
2. Clinton. Too far to the right on economic issues. Okay on social issues. Great on environmental issues.
3. Ford. Ineffective, weak, caretaker administration. If we must have Repuke administrations, I wouldn't want any other kind.
4. Nixon. A lying, power-tripping, criminal who prolonged the Vietnam War four extra years. But he was a fiscal liberal who brought us the EPA and Clean Air Act, proposed price freezes and a guaranteed minimum income, and opened up China. That still doesn't make him any less criminal.
664. Reagan. Gutter level demagogue and voodoo economist who re-launched the Cold War, busted the air traffic controllers and other unions, ran up a huge federal debt, supported death squads in El Salvador and apartheid in South Africa, etc etc.
665. Poppy. Mass murderer who fomented a war against Iraq on false pretenses, heated up the drug war and the growth of the prison complex, etc. Don't forget Iran-Contra, October Surprise, S&L scandal, BCCI, Panama and Noriega. Superceded as the most evil person ever to occupy the White House - by his son.
666. Shrubby. Mass murderer who fomented another war against Iraq on false pretenses, and brought us the Patriot Act, Homeland Security gestapo, rolling blackouts, Enron scandal, highest budget deficits ever, and too much else to mention. The most divisive, evil person to occupy the White House in the history of this country.
