it's been discussed before, taking the whole month of november, or at least a whole week, instead of cramming it all into half a day on nov. 2nd. many people can't get to the polls in that strict of a time contraint. what'da ya' think?

1. Why not on Saturday, like most civilized countries? Because:
They count on LOW turnout. That's why.

2. Well there's a logistical problem
Keeping the polls open an entire month would be a greater hassle as you'd need to have people there the entire time.

Personally I think the best option is to make it a national holiday; but Republicans don't like that idea. They want a low turn out.

7. Yeah, but I don't want some idiot taking the day to head to the lake
instead of voting. Face it, we need their votes too.

4. There's such a thing as the absentee ballot
and for a relatively low investment (compared to the budget for TV ads) the DNC could get an absentee ballot into the hands of every registered Democrat in this country.

I'll never understand why they aren't doing this. We'll win any election with a high turnout. Look at Hugo Chavez...even with a near total media opposition, he won by getting the vote out.

5. I always vote absentee
cause i can't get to the polling places, and it's just easier to vote from home. i discovered that almost anyone, if not everyone can vote that way. i'd prefer if everyone did, cause it has your actual signature and date. i suppose there are also ways to mess with absentee votes, and if bushkkko can find a way, they will.

6. So why don't we push absentee voting like the Republicans?
Or is it being done? Anybody know?

10. Yes it is being done.
In Iowa we brought in 18,000 dem ballots to 3000 Republican ones in 2000. We are agressively doing it again.

11. It does surprise me that it isn't a Nat'l holiday.
In Norway, where I live, election day is on the first Monday in September in odd years, and all schools, offices, and most businesses are closed. Grocery stores are open, but selling alcohol is forbidden (I guess they want people to be sober when they vote!)

I think that is a very smart way of doing things.
