Fox Rejects Ad from The Nation -- CNN & MSNBC accept ad
http://www.nytimes.com/2004/08/30/business/media/30fox.html
Ten days ago, the ad agency for The Nation sent a 60-second commercial to the cable network promoting its brand of political news and commentary as free of White House influence and corporate agendas. While the ad will appear on Time Warner's CNN, as well as NBC Universal's MSNBC and Bravo, it will not appear on Fox News, a division of the News Corporation whose chairman and chief executive is Rupert Murdoch.

"They rejected it out of hand," said Arthur Stupar, senior vice president for circulation at The Nation. "I find it ironic. They are the G.O.P. cable station, a champion of free markets, and they got spooked at the thought of running an ad that doesn't publish spin or serve the agenda of corporate conglomerates."

Executives at The Nation were hoping that Fox News would be more accommodating, especially because the network has bought an ad in the newest issue of The Nation, which will be coming out during the convention.

And last year, Fox News purchased a back-page ad in The Nation, an action that prompted 50 readers to cancel their subscriptions in protest of the magazine taking what they considered tainted money. After reading of the controversy, Fox News promptly purchased another.

3. I was one of the fifty who cancelled my subscription
I did not wish to pay for a magazine with Bill O'Reilly's ugly mug on the back cover.

9. I think it's great that they are taking money from Fox
It shows that they're not intimidated by them. And there's no way in hell having a Fox advert on the back of The Nation is going to make The Nation change their content at all nor is it going to change the ideological bent of any of their readers.

It's very telling that Fox wouldn't accept an ad from The Nation. They are intimidated by the truth.

6. I think "Nation" could justify
not running Fox News ads on the grounds that Fox News has a documented bias and does not practice journalism with the highest of journalistic standards and ethics.

In fact I'd be willing to chip in to "replace" with a note to that effect the space where Fox would have run their ad if the Nation would take the high road stance and deny Fox advertising space.

7. Now that's a "fair and balanced" way to do business...
It's always a hoot when Faux tries to pretend to be anything other than right-wing.

10. So, there's no FCC rule to force them to accept it?
I know that the fairness doctrine was dropped a long time ago (under Reagan?).

So, ironically, we get Rush Limbaugh and "fair and balanced".

What a joke is our media. I point my backside in their general direction.
