What happened at the VMAs. ... Drudge reporting Kerry girls were booed
What is that all about? Honestly, I have trouble believing it. I thought youth was smarter than that? Did the Bush twins get booed also?

4. Well you better tell
ABC that. They reported on GMA that Kerry's daughter got the boo's and said nothing about the Bush twins.

2. it was the twins who WERE booed. they appeared on a screen behind
Edited on Mon Aug-30-04 10:09 AM by codegreen
the Kerry's and when they appeared is when massive booing happened.

it's really quite sad that the media refuses to report the truth of this event, and instead is consistently spinning it in the opposite direction.

and, as usual, there's nothing of consequence we can do about it.

(edit: the twins' appearance on the screen was not on the television feed, which was a closeup of the Kerry's. and it's not just Drudge reporting this; it's CNN and all the rest as well, just playing the footage with zero context)

5. My son saw the show
and he told me that they did indeed get booed. I asked about the Bush twins and he said no, they'd didn't get booed. They did the show in Florida so perhaps they had a crowd full of Bushbots.

I have noticed that MTV is become quite the rightwing vehicle however. Not sure how that happened.

16. He watched it on MTV
No, he wasn't there. But he did say that the Kerry girls (specifically) were booed. Now, I didn't go into details about it with him, but he's just as liberal as I am and so it wouldn't have been wishful thinking on his part or anything. However, I still want to see it for myself.

Of course, I suspect the confusion could very well have originated with MTV and CNN et al are just exaggerating even more.

Too bad channels such as MTV were'nt more like C_SPAN, were they just train a camera at the crowd and capture everything.

7. What you doing reading Drudge?
Edited on Mon Aug-30-04 10:14 AM by joefree1
Wasn't the Globe available at the store? Drudge is such a sleaze rag.

From CNN:
Kerry, Bush daughters booed on MTV

MIAMI, Florida (CNN) -- Reaching out to young Americans at MTV's Video Music Awards Sunday night, the daughters of President Bush and his Democratic challenger Sen. John Kerry were met by loud cheers and jeers.

It was unclear exactly whom the cheers and the boos were meant for or why. They began immediately after radio and MTV personality Carson Daly introduced "from New York, Barbara and Jenna Bush and here in Miami, Vanessa and Alexandra Kerry."

The Kerry daughters were at the event at the American Airlines Arena; the Bush daughters appeared in a pre-recorded video.

9. MTV turned DOWN the boos during the bush girls part - CNN

It was unclear exactly whom the cheers and the boos were meant for or why. They began immediately after radio and MTV personality Carson Daly introduced "from New York, Barbara and Jenna Bush and here in Miami, Vanessa and Alexandra Kerry."

MTV cameras showed some audience members apparently giving the women a standing ovation, but the mixture of boos and cheers continued.

-----
MTV's broadcast turned down sounds of the audience during the playing of the (bush girls') video, but the vocal audience could still be heard.

snip:
-----
The boos seemed to die down and cheers took their place toward the end of the segment, when the Kerry daughters took back the floor and encouraged people to support victims of Hurricane Charley, which devastated portions of Florida earlier this month.

11. Please remember that the VM awards were in Miami Florida
This was a party and no body wanted politics there. If you saw the crowd, you would have to wonder if some of the kids there were old enough to be out after dark.

Both Kerry girls and the Bush twins were booed, they would have booed the Olsen twins if their only purpose there was politics.

14. I watched it. I have it TIVO'd and watched it again.
There were both cheers and boos for the Kerry girls.

There are young Republicans out there. It's a fact.

I'd say it was 75% cheers, 25% boos.

I'd love to be able to say all the boos were for the Bush twins, but that wouldn't be true.

19. Reading Sludge makes you a troll????
I read Sludge a few times everyday. Why? Because he always tries to run BS stories in the hopes that the media will pick them up. It's always interesting to see him post some "big breaking story" that in a matter of hours gets pushed way down or deleted all together. For example, he had stories on Kerry's 1000 dollar haircut and a story about a "mystery bracelet" on Clinton's wrist that he insinuated was given to him by a woman. Both of these didn't catch.

Reading Sludge is a great way to keep tabs on the enemy. Especially if you are unable to subject yourselves to Rush or Faux or anyone else. I laugh when his big alerts get slapped down.

I am not a troll and object to your statement that anyone who reads Sludge is.

18. here's the thing
Edited on Mon Aug-30-04 01:46 PM by newsguyatl
i've sinced watched the tape of this... and it wasn't the kerry girls who got booed at all, well not really... here's how it went down:

the host, what's his face, intros the presidential candidates daughters, FIRST jenna and barbara bush by name (you hear boo's from audience) then the kerry daughters... but the kerry daughters come out FIRST, so i think the audience (america's bright youth) thought that they were actually the bush twins... and boo'ed them... the folks who knew who they were, were cheering loudly.

also, there was just some overall booing of putting politics in the show to begin with... but no, don't believe the drudge hype or anything else, the kerry daughters WEREN'T booed... it was the bush twins...

that's my view, and i'm standin' by it.
