Want To Feel Better About Things? Get Satellite Radio
I've had Sirius since last wednesday and have had AAR on non-stop- What a difference in my frame of mind- there are actually people on the radio boldly speaking the truth about what is going on in this country - there is hope!!

1. I can't get Sirius to work in my office ...
... but I bought a portable MP3 player and I download the previous day's shows from airamericaplace.com and listen to them when I'm at work.

23. Some of the cities have repeaters, though.
In the business districts, to improve reception in areas with lots of tall buildings.

Unfortunately, I work smack dab in the middle of a steel-girdered building. Nothing gets through those walls.

2. AAR's constant drumbeat of new stations...
Edited on Sun Aug-29-04 09:45 PM by Tandalayo_Scheisskop
Is something that you all should take close notice of. These stations are picking up AAR not because they are having some molecular-level progressive epiphany. They are picking up AAR because AAR is bringing the noise with RATINGS and ADVERTISERS. The marketplace is speaking very loudly and listeners are driving the marketplace. A lot of people are showing that they WANT to hear talk radio in the AAR format.

These radio folks would not be programming AAR on their stations for any other reason. None. Whatsoever.

The people are speaking. They want the channel changed.

3. I've been considering it recently.
I went to a concert last week, and my buddy had it. He's conservative so we listened to music.

I got a regular car and a sports car though. I don't want to switch everyday depending on which one I drive.
Can I easily switch the reciever between house and home?
How much does the reciever cost?
If I have two, do I have to have two subscriptions?

4. Switching between house and home? I'll bet you mean house
and car- yes it's very easy. It's also easy to switch between cars- though it's a little more trouble. The receiver is $50. The boombox is $98. the car rig $50. and there is a $50 rebate at Radio Shack- I bought it there because they advertise on AAR. I think it's one receiver per subscription

7. Yeah...That's what I meant.
That's cheaper than I thought it would be.

So I can buy three "docking stations" and carry the reciever with me to where ever I want to listen. I might look into this a little further...Thanx

6. I just got Sirius in June and I love it...
The receiver was $149.00 and the yearly subscription is $12.95 or $9.95 if paid on an annual basis. There is a boom box that you can buy that you can use to play the radio in your home. I think that retails for $99.00, but you can go to sirius.com for more information. I had to install a modulator in the glove box so that I could get better reception ( I bought a plug and play unit and all the stations that were recommended to set to were local stations and they "bled through" - reception was lousy). That can be done at any car audio store. The cost on that varies - I paid about $88.00 for installation. In all, the system components cost less than $300 and it was well worth it.

8. $13 a year? ...Or is that a month?
The other thing is that my cable bill is over $100 with modem.

This basically adds to the ammount I pay, for what I used to get for free. .....Bastards!

one of my customers this afternoon and they said something about Clear Channel (Barf) suing Sirius and the other one (XL...XML ??)
about "airspace" or some other ridiculous stuff.
Anybody know anything??

investment. My Grundig PE400 is my lifeline.

I don't have to listen to anything on American radio ....just stream AAR whenever I'm on the computer. The rest of the time it's commercial free BBC, CBC, Australia, New Zealand, Radio Havana, Germany, Netherlands, Japan, Sweden, Taiwan, China, and for fun, N. Korea, which sounds like a throwback to about 40 years ago. When the conditions are right, I've even picked up Voice of Turkey...All in English, of course.

I've been in heaven for well over a year....

11. How much approximately in cost?
I've been thinking of it. My father had a shortwave radio back in the forties when we lived in Chile. He was able to get New York news and other countries as we were living out in the middle of nowhere being rather incommunicado other than telegraph. I think I'd like to try it again.

12. A cheap one for under $100
You can get a very nice set for about $300-$400. That's new, used ones on eBay are less.

A nice paperback guide called "Passport to World Band Radio" comes out every year and lists stations and also rates radios in different classes.

24. If I were you I'd buy a good used one
The cheap new ones aren't much fun to use and have problems with picking up spurious signals. Better to get a good quality used one. And I would definitely check out the reviews in Passport.

I think Radio Shack may carry a few low end short wave radios, it you don't want to seek out a speciality store or mail order one.

Not sure if I'd want to jump into something that might not be around for much longer.

19. XM has more subscribers if I'm not mistaken but they don't carry the
entire AAR lineup like Sirius does. I'd rather listen to Mike Malloy and not Allen Colmes at 9pm. Also, I don't XM carries the complete Randi Rhodes show (correct me if I'm wrong) because they have Ed Schultz on after Al Franken and then the last hour of Randi before the Majority Report. I've heard that XM has better music choices but Sirius I believe has a contract with the NFL. Personally, I would go with Sirius because they have Sirius Left in addition to AAR but it's up to you.

20. Thanks, most appreciated!
I didn't know XM didn't carry the full AAR lineup. I don't really care about the music aspect since I don't ever listen to the radio anyway, the only reason I'd think about it would be to get AAR on the go. Thanks!

21. i have had sirius for a couple months now and LOVE it for AAR.
but some of their music channels just outright suck--like their folk station. they don't play the good stuff like the kingston trio, PP&M, smothers brothers, joan baez, etc.

if it wasn't for Air America, I wouldn't pay for sirius. my other complaint of sirius is that they plug conservative crap sometimes. i got a little tired of hearing little plugs for the right like sean hannity's show and their conservative version of AAR. that rubbed me the wrong way.
