Bush Says Bible Is His Best Book
On a campaign stop in Lima, Ohio, Bush took questions from his audience, including from a young boy who asked him what his favorite book was. To loud applause, the president replied: "The Bible."

18. quite a bit.
Matthew 6:1-13 MKJV
(1) Take heed that you do not do your merciful deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward with your Father in Heaven.
(2) Therefore when you do your merciful deeds, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may have glory from men. Truly I say to you, They have their reward.
(3) But when you do merciful deeds, do not let your left hand know what your right hand does,
(4) so that your merciful deeds may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret Himself shall reward you openly.
(5) And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, so that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you, They have their reward.
(6) But you, when you pray, enter into your room. And shutting your door, pray to your Father in secret; and your Father who sees in secret shall reward you openly.
(7) But when you pray, do not babble vain words, as the nations. For they think that in their much speaking they shall be heard.
(8) Therefore do not be like them, for your Father knows what things you have need of, before you ask Him.
(9) Therefore pray in this way: Our Father, who is in Heaven, Hallowed be Your name.
(10) Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven.
(11) Give us this day our daily bread;
(12) and forgive us our debts as we also forgive our debtors.
(13) And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil. For Yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

32. While We're Quoting Scripture ...
...Here's Matthew 25:

"Whatever you do to the least of these, you do unto me."

Let's make a list for Bush, shall we?

Iraqi civilians
Middle class
Senior citizens
Kids
Single parents
Students

I suggest he study the Good Book a tad harder.

51. women
please plese why do I have to remind constantly about Bush's war on women. His gag rule closes or cripples women's health clinics worldwide, dooming millions of women to disease and death and unwanted pregnancies, thereby further trapping them in poverty. His push for legislation that will lift the rights of fetuses above that of women; his push for health care benefits to fetuses but not to the women who carry them. His war on the poor, who are largely women and their dependent children. His installation to the Women's Health Commision (sorry can't remember proper name of this agency)of Right wing zealots who as a Dr. advises women asking for birth control to read their bibles and opposes abortion for any reason. If I checked at Planned Parenthood's info pages I could go on here......

I'm sorry to scold but it upsets me that I so often see lists like this that neglect to include the 50% of the population who are also specifically targeted by the smirk.

3. The last sentence in that story is cryptic...
"History is a way to understand the past so you can better see the future," Bush told the boy.

I am reminded of Orwell's "1984":

"He who controls the past commands the future. He who commands the future conquers the past."

9. Except for that part about the...
Doing unto others, turning the other cheek, feeding the poor, healing the sick, not bearing false witness, not taking God's name in vain, loving your enemies, not killing, not stealing, not coveting, it's a pretty decent book.

Oh and we will just ignore the seven deadly sins while we are at it: Pride, envy, greed, lust, gluttony, anger, and sloth.

Oh, and well also disregard that part about those things which the Lord hates and are abomination to him:
* A proud look,
* a lying tongue,
* and hands that shed innocent blood,
* An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations,
* feet that be swift in running to mischief,
* A false witness speaketh lies,
* and he that soweth discord among brethren.

In summation, it makes a better paperweight than "My Pet Goat"

"... of Alexander Hamilton"

Hamilton, like Kerry, actually showed up when it was his turn to go to war. Rode right alongside George Washington.

I doubt Bushboy sees the irony in that.

11. So... the obvious
follow up is "Mr. Bush, what does Romans 1:16 say?"
or pick some other verse.

If he reads it as often as he claims, and it so important to him,
then the most popular verses should be right on the tip of his
tongue.

Or

"The Wealthy shall inherit the Earth"

Of course that is why his audiences must be hand picked.

Oops, from the title of the thread, I thought the weed that would be king was claiming he wrote the book, which would not have surprised me in the least. He professes to be a holy Christian and he admits to following the direction of voices he professes are the heavenly father.

Someone sent me that email about the weed in church and I simply responded as follows:

"Glad he attends church, he needs all the spiritual help he can get.
I don't believe that God likes war, so I don't believe he is getting his directions from God. I think he has listened to the wrong voices."

and not get an answer? Or a really strange one?

Even the non-Bible-readers among us could have pulled our asses out on this one...you just tell them your favorite passage is John 3:16. Everyone knows John 3:16, and it is a lot of Christians' favorite passage so you'll even sound halfway believable.

But not Bush, the self-proclaimed great Christian.
