I've been thinking about the implications of the spy news.
If what our trusted sources say is true, the President's false assertion in the State of the Union address was not only based on forged documents, it was based on documents forged by Israeli spies who infiltrated the upper echelons of our government.

Is there any kind of precedent?

1. look, get real
the Likud/pnac crowd were very clear that they wanted America to "feel" under siege "just like us"(pre 9-11)in order to retain their advantage, rip up Oslo and go on their merry way.

Why does this surprise anyone?

They won themselves a short term victory and America paid the price.

it's just sad that these men of power make everyone else pay the price for their stupidity and intransigence.

And for what? Is Israel any safer today?

Now watch the lid blow off this and you'll see anti-semitism run rampant in the USA.

These are irresponsible and dangerous men that forget that having the power to do something, still doesn't give you the power to control it's consequences, witch in this case, will be terrible for Israel and sad for those of us who care for her and wish her well.

We do deserve better, g*d help us get that slacker fraud and his merry band of Pnac'ers out in November.

Leo Strauss, rot in hell.

2. this story has no legs--it's already being downplayed on the nets
why?

It's about Israel. Nobody is allowed to say anything critical about the administration of Israel without either becoming an antisemite or being accused of it. There can be no civil discussion.

Who took away our rights in this matter?

Israel did, that's who.

3. It will only be an issue
if the media and investigators do their jobs. I'm not sure that's possible anymore. America has willingly changed away from it's principles. Therefore, I'm not sure of any real implications.
