I actually like a Republican Senator (on two issues!!)
Edited on Fri Aug-27-04 06:32 PM by Lori Price CLG
Lindsey Graham (R- South Carolina) has tremendous integrity on the Abu Ghraib abuse scandal. He has used the term 'terrorism' to describe some of the acts of abuse (with the dogs and Iraqi adolescents). He is continues to speak out on the issue, regardless of what other Republicans say/do. He was a former military lawyer, and is the most articulate critic of the scandal that I have heard. Also, Graham is critical of the way the Iraq W-ar is handled.

I just want to give credit where it is due.

I do not agree w. many of Graham's other views - I had to add that comment, on edit. But, at least he acts upon/states what he believes.

1. Go Google him
He's a DB and not worthy of your liking him.

4. I made an edit to my original post...
Yes, I did go to his website, and Graham is very conservative. But, trust me, on the Abu Ghraib prison scandal, he is a very strong voice against what happened there.

People like Senator McCain - who *sells out* by campaigning for/with Bush (who he knows is pond scum) and allowed the 'Keating Five' banking scandals to fester in Arizona. While I disagree w. most of Graham's viewpoints, he at least acts upon/says what he believes.

2. I thought Graham's behavior was terrible
during the Clinton impeachment. But I agree with you here. He has shown integrity and seems intent on finding the true story. However, there are too few like him so we will likely never know the full story.

3. yeah. on this one subject you gotta give it to him. he was about the
only republican during the rumsfeld etc hearings on abu ghraib that spoke harshly about anything remotely like torture going on and wanted to get to the truth of it.

the day after cheney blasted the democrats (and told them to "get off their back") for questioning rumsfeld et al, graham was on meet the press and he gave it to cheney pretty good.
told cheney that he will not get off anything and they needed to find out what was going on.

so good on graham for this one

5. I like the way he's handling Abu Ghraib...
Too bad the majority of 'pubs could manage sheer outrage over consensual sex play but can't muster the same when it comes to our taxpayer funded military raping and torturing civilians, some of which were just kids. Other than listening to Graham in the hearings, I don't know too much about him except that I disagree with 99% of his politics outside of the Abu Ghraib hearings, but I'm glad there's one 'pub who has something resembling a moral and ethical compass.
