CNN at 34th and 8th? The New Yorker building????????
Can someone explain what I just saw? CNN has taken over the Tick Tock Diner at 34th and 8th Avenue. Secret Service type security is standing in front of the entrance to the New Yorker Hotel.

Do the Moonies still own the New Yorker? I'm thinking yes, because a new owner would have at least refurbished the sign which is unbearably shabby. Does that mean the Moonies also own the Tick Tock? Or does the diner hold a long lease which would prevent CNN from directly renting space from the Moonies? Are any GOP reps staying at the New Yorker?

Is there anyone out there who can clarify this for me?

1. Do you mean the magazine? Or is it a hotel?
The New Yorker magazine is in the Conde Nast tower now.

2. I think the Moonies still own the hotel...
as well as the Scottish theater down the block. I don't know about the diner.

7. I would have thought for security reasons this would have been
private. If I were them, I sure would not want locals to know where I was sleeping. Kind of like staying in Falluja for Hanukah and having your name posted on a list on the mosque door.

13. How many names are still secret?
Edited on Fri Aug-27-04 05:30 PM by aquart
On edit: Should we ask if the reason names and hotels are being kept secret is that they don't want to reveal how cozy they are with the Moonies? Or would that be pointlessly mean?

15. I went by and CNN is there.
I think they will be setting up shop there but I am not 100% sure. The "Election Express" was there with some CNN people.
