Paula Sharaga has better things to do than travel to New York City this weekend, but the Holliston resident feels obligated to join thousands of protesters in marching past Madison Square Garden on the eve of the Republican National Convention.
Sharaga, who protested the Vietnam War when she was in college, said she drifted away from the anti-war movement as an adult. But she quickly returned to her activist roots after President Bush began waging his war on terrorism in Afghanistan and Iraq.
"After Sept. 11, I woke up with the rest of the nation," she said.
"A terrible tragedy occurred, but I felt we were taking a very wrong turn in responding to it. Now I'm just trying to do what I can to actively resist the violence."
