Haven't taken the time to fully read the article*, but one name jumped out at me: Lt. Col. John "Bill" Calhoun
That sighting of Dubya by Calhoun was debunked by an Alabama news source.
The White House offered up last week a retired officer from Georgia, Lt. Col. John B. Calhoun, who said he served with the 187th Tactical Reconnaissance Group at Dannelly. Calhoun told reporters Mr.Bush made four, maybe six, maybe eight drills in May or June of 1972. Calhoun said Bush came in and reported to him, hung out in his office and they would have meals together.
The problem with Mr. Calhoun's story is that Mr. Bush was not authorized to drill with the 187th until Sep. 15, 1972. In May he had requested to drill with another unit. Mr. Calhoun also told the media that he had difficulty believing" the commander of the 187th. at that time, retired Gen. William Turnipseed, who has said he does not recall Mr. Bush being at the unit. Mr. Calhoun even went so far as to say it was Turnipseed who sent Bush to his office.
Mr. Calhoun is the only member of the 187th who has said he recalls Mr. Bush being at the unit. Another member, Joe LeFevers told The Birmingham News that he remembered seeing Bush on base, saying he recognized Bush because of his political job in the Blount for Senate campaign, but he did not recall if Mr. Bush had actually performed drill duty at the Dannelly Air Guard facility.
