1. Why?
Please give reasoning for your request (besides the presence of Jebco and his cabal).

9. Aren't they reason enough?
Isn't "Jebco", and Election 2000 enough reason? Fact is, *the majority* of Florida's people voted to put in *a majority* of right-wing fascists in office (state office holders) in Florida. Why should we support this with our dollars and patronage? Boycotts are a great way to put pressure on Mr. Jeb, and assure his state does not reap economic rewards for their behavior. Personally, I've been boycotting everything "Florida" (juice, travel, etc.) since December, 2000, and will continue to do so until Jeb and HIS group of henchmen are turned out.

13. NO, they are not reason enough!
A very large portion of the those employed in Florida work in the tourist industry. Most of those workers make less than $20,000 per year. A large portion of those make less than $15,000 per year.

Believe me, when tourism goes down, the first people to suffer are the low wage group. Their hours get cut and their $204.00 take home pay (should they be fortunate enough to work a 40 hour week at $6.00 per hour) will be cut drastically to something like $127.50.

Those working the tourism industry in Florida already suffer several slow periods a year when their hours are cut back (mid August through October - school starts, late April through June 15 - graduation).

Believe me, the people who pushed Katherine Harris into her House seat, and those who toady to the Bush brothers are not the one who will suffer. They will likely barely even notice.

Haven't we "little people" suffered enough in this state?

If you want to express your displeasure with Jeb Bush, Katherine Harris, Tom Feeney, and all the other criminal types who have taken over our state by hook and by crook, find a better way. A way that does not do more harm to people who are already clinging by their cracking and splitting fingers nails.

26. Thanks 1Monster
I've been employed by the mouse for 14 years, and while I have a decent income, the vast majority of the 50,000 Disney employees down here get by on part time and minimum wages (many work two 35 hour a week jobs, with no benefits). We lost a lot of revenue due to 9/11, we don't need anyone boycotting us just because of our crooked, election stealing Government (who are doing PLENTY to squeeze these same employees)!

8. Yup.
But somebody who thinks folks are planning for Spring Break right now might not be hip to that fact.

Just a little slow on the uptake, if you know what I mean.

Or "one taco shy of a combination plate"--as we say down here.

7. Yes. Penalize us, in Florida, where the majority voted for Gore.
Where thousands of us were disenfranchised, and now more are out of jobs. Take away our major industry. Real smart.

10. My thoughts exactly.
If people want to boycott what about WalMart? Or perhaps Exxon/Mobil/BP/Shell?

Why the one state that's taken the hardest hits when it comes to being essentially strip of the Democratic process?

but I've noticed the poster that started this thread floats this kind of crap around here all the time. Most of his stuff goes by without much response so he/she just keeps at it til they get the kind of attention this one is getting.

11. Go there, but wear an appropriately messaged T shirt. . .
Don't blame me - I voted for Gore, or some such sentiment. Maybe "Anyone but Bush" - that would cover both W and Jeb.

12. It's not the people's fault
And the average people would suffer from a boycott. Disney World would, too, and they are one of the most liberal companies out there, who actually take care of all their employees regardless of race, religon and sexual orientation.

21. Disney not liberal?
Edited on Mon Aug-25-03 11:11 AM by uberotto
Disney is a corporation, and like every other corporation it's size it's mostly evil, but being too conservative is definately not one of Disneys problems.

Maybe you should check out this link before deciding Disney isn't liberal...

http://www.gayday.com/

It's a celebration that happens every year, and it is indirectly promoted by Disney. And best of all, it has kept the Southern Babtists out of Disney for five years now...

election the boycott was instituted after election 2000. But I did wear my TEXAS DEMOCRAT t-shirt on the last day. Got a lot of good responses. Everywhere I go now I were the TEXAS Dem shirt on the last day. I get a lot of support. However when I went to Vegas it got me a 6 hour delay, it was the day the war started.....

19. It's not just the sElection
Orlando's a company town, and the company is Walt Disney, makers of fine American disinformation and propaganda.

And much of the world's most vile and hateful death metal comes from Florida.

My opinion, of course, and worth what you paid for it.

20. Why boycott Florida
It is not our fault the Republicans stole our votes.

Also, please Remember that Forida is a very stratified state. Most of the tourist spots are in counties like Dade (Miami), Broward (Fort Lauderdale), Palm Beach, Volusia (Daytona Beach), Orange and Osceola (Orlando), Monroe (Key West) and Pinellas and Pasco (Clearwater & St. Pete). These are counties that voted for Al Gore in 2000. By boycotting Florida, you will be hurting Democrats much more than Republicans.

My family and I live in Florida. We consider it to be occupied territory at the moment. We are doing all we can to correct that but by all means, boycott us.

You think Jeb is the state? The state is the people who actually LIVE here. Are you somehow under the impression that a boycott of the state will directly harm Jeb Bush? The only people a boycott will hurt are the poor bastards at the bottom of the totem pole here in South Florida and a few beach areas on the eastern coast. We are the most liberal peoples in the state. Is that your objective?

Perhaps you observed how effective our national boycott has been on our neighbor to the south, Cuba. Yep, that got Castro out of there in a hurry didn't it?

Great Goddess this level of ignorance scares me. There really is no hope is there?

...probably argued that sanctions on Iraq were wrong because they hurt the people and not the leaders.

I usually expect this kind of logical disconnect from Freepers, not progressives.
