4. VERY interesting.
I've always wondered why people with low incomes vote Republican. Now I know.

5. How are they determining IQ?
This looks too much like a "study" on the relative IQs of the various Presidents.

But it DOES seem to fit my assumptions....

I take it "income" is a "per capita" figure and not average salary?

7. Now that is FUNNY!
The Repugs get the poor, dumb bastards. And then once in office the Repugs work on making more of them.

I didn't look at the source, but the IQ numbers can't be correct, can they? Still, it is funny.

15. I read somewhere else that they used avg. SAT and ACT
scores to determine IQ, which is dubious, IMO. The more metropolitan, "Blue" states are naturally going to have higher average SAT scores than rural "Red" states; I'm not sure if you can draw a co-relation between that and voting patterns. Maybe, but I know plenty of book-intelligent people who love Bush. Just because you can read legal briefs or do calculus doesn't make you a great political thinker.

8. How did they come up with those IQ figures?
Edited on Thu Aug-26-04 03:02 PM by Warpy
The statistical norm for the human race is 100. There should be little variation from state to state. Something like 95% of us are in that 95-105 IQ range.

Sorry, but I think this is utterly bogus.

13. The IQ numbers are approximated from the income figures by state...

in other words, the higher the per-capita income of a state, the higer an IQ number is given, I assume. The web page just says this:

The income-IQ correlation was inspired by the book "IQ and the Wealth of Nations," by Richard Lynn and Tatu Vanhanen. The income statistics are now perhaps a decade old, but were apparently the only numbers available to the original compiler when the results of the '00 election became available (and this chart was made).

16. Actually 68% of us fall between 85 and 115 (+1 or - 1 SD of 15)
Edited on Thu Aug-26-04 03:12 PM by depakote_kid
and although there is doubtlessly some varation among the states, there's no methodology in use I can think of that would come up with valid "average" state IQ's.

I smell an urban legend.

9. If you broke it out by gender and ethnicity
you'd find minorities and women (as a rule) make less money but are more consistent in voting Democratic.

So I'd be interested in seeing their representive demographics in each state....and how that factors in with the rest of the state.
