Republicans are better athletes
Edited on Wed Aug-25-04 03:11 PM by onenote
That's the not so subtle implication of the latest stinking pile from O'Wrongly. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,129979,00.html
His thesis is that US athletes are dominating the Olympics because the US "increasingly" (meaning since Shrubya?)emphasizes self reliance and don't rely on government entitlements. To illustrate his point, he draws a distinction Canada (with 5 medals)and Australia with 35 saying that this "is reflective of the systems in those countries. Australia is a place where self-reliance is emphasized and competition is celebrated. Canada has become increasingly socialistic, as big government programs ensure everyone is marginally taken care of. I may be wrong here, but I see the entitlement culture as a force against self-discipline and motivation."

What a pile of crapola. First, the reason the US is leading in the medal count is that the Soviet Union broke up. If you add up the medal counts of all the former soviet republics (with a combined population basically equal to that of the US), they're crushing the US (last count: US 74/reconstituted USSR 96). Second, I wonder how billyboy would explain France (y'know, those decadent old Europe wimps)having 26 medals. That's one for every 2.3 million person in France. The comparable US total? one medal for every 3.9 million persons.

And, by the way, the idea that Olympic training doesn't get government support in this country is a lie. Most of the olympic-style facilities at which our athletes train were built with millions, probably billions of federal and state funds.

Finally, I guess Americans and Australians are only self-motivated when its warm outside. That's why in the last winter Olympics the Canadians won 17 medals (1 per 1.8 million population) and the Australians won ony 2 (1 per 10 million population) and the US won 34 (one per 8.6 million).

Hey billyboy, you empty headed POS, I guess your gonna have to come up with another theory....

they would still do better than americans if they could still compete in the nude.

8. I am soo sick of the olympics being about America ruling the world.
I love the olympics because I love sports. I love seeing teams and individuals from any nation giving the best atheletic performances in the world. I love seeing a wide variety of sports that I dont normally see.

The olympics are not a competition between countries, it is worldwide event for athletes from around the world to compete.

Its so frustrating, I can barely watch it.

14. Some people say he still wears his sequined costume under his suit.
Of course, that's just what some people are saying. But isn't it strange that he hasn't disputed it? There must be something to these charges that Bill O'Reilly wears women's swimwear at work.

Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I rest my case.

Billy looks a little cold. Maybe this was dress rehearsal for his new Sea World show, "The THO'Reilly Factor."

*Photograph MAY have been digitally manipulated to enhance the color, light and shadow, or to paste O'Reilly's head on a real swimmer's body.

22. JERRY: Oh... You mean... shrinkage.
GEORGE: Yes. Significant shrinkage.
JERRY: So you feel you were short changed.
GEORGE: Yes! I mean, if she thinks that's me she's under a complete misapprehension.
JERRY: Well, so what's the difference?
GEORGE: What if she discusses it with Jane?
JERRY: Oh, she's not gonna tell Jane.
GEORGE: Couldn't you at least tell her about the shrinkage factor?
JERRY: No, I'm not gonna tell her about your shrinkage. Besides, I think women know about shrinkage.
GEORGE: How do women know about shrinkage?
JERRY: Isn't it common knowledge?

GEORGE & JERRY: (Elaine walking down the hall they notice her and wave her into the room) Elaine! Get! (She enters)

GEORGE: Do women know about shrinkage?
ELAINE: What do you mean, like laundry?
GEORGE: No.
JERRY: Like when a man goes swimming... afterwards...
ELAINE: It shrinks?
JERRY: Like a frightened turtle!
ELAINE: I don't know how you guys walk around with those things.

I would imagine that it has to do with the diversity of the US - we have a diverse enough population to recruit the proper body types for a wide range of sports.

20. Self reliance tempered with kickbacks and corporate welfare
I think Dems and Pukes differ little on the issue of self reliance. Pukes like to think that any social program at all destroys self reliance. But corporate welfare creates self reliance out the wazoo. Right. And pink elephants are flying out of my butt.

25. Yeah,I thought the lotteries were just for that purpose.
It's lack of money. The Americans actually PAY their athletes for winning a medal. Our athletes have to have crappy jobs the supplement themselves. There were even coaches not sent to Athens because of lack of funds.

That's where the true athletes are found.

Or it might be real baseball they play, not softball. I don't remember.

"Australia is a place where self-reliance is emphasized and competition is celebrated"

Our education, health etc system are more "socialised" than Canada's where on earth is he pulling the "self reliant" shite from - the reason we do well in sport in relation to the size of population is that (a) sport is ridiculously over emphasised and glamorised here and (b) we spend a SHITLOAD of public funds on it.

It's also pretty warm/mild here so we spend a lot of time outdoors and AUstralian kids tend to learn to swim early (explaining proficiency in swimming stuff) - we suck at winter sports coz our ski season only exists in a few small places and for a couple of months a year.
